Philip E. Bennet, of Bethesda, MD, local artist, attorney, and loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on July 3, 2016, at the age of 86. After graduating from Grinnell College and Harvard Law School, Phillip was an attorney with the I.R.S. until his retirement in 1997. During his retirement, Philip’s paintings and prints were exhibited in various local galleries, and are housed in the Library of Congress Print Division and the Grinnell College Faulconer Art Museum Collection. Apart from his art, Phillip took his greatest joy in spending time with his wife of 58 years (and the love of his life) Ann, his children, Michael (Carri), Steven (Leslie), and Eve (Eric), and, as “Papa Phil,” his grandchildren, Cara, Sydney, Nathan, Maddie, Dylan, Daisy, and Charlotte. He also loved traveling, hiking, and playing competitive tennis and socializing at the Edgemoor Club. Philip is also survived by his sister, Carol Schoenberg. A memorial service is planned.
