The Honorable George C. Young. He was 98 years old. Judge Young served as the first federal district judge in Orlando, and he had a long and remarkable career. He presided over many significant cases in Orlando, including a case where he ordered the desegregation of Orange County Schools. He served as Chief Judge of the Middle District from 1973 until 1981. In 1993, Congress named the federal courthouse in Orlando after him.
Judge Young leaves behind his wife, Iris, of 64 years and his daughter, Barbara Ann Young Smallback. Judge Young’s funeral service will be held tomorrow, April 29, 2015, at 11:00am at the First Presbyterian Church of Orlando.
