Law School Student Chapters exist to further the objectives of the FBA, to represent the FBA to law students, and to stimulate the interest of law students in the activities of the FBA. Law School Student Chapters allow greater connection between Law Schools and their local FBA Chapter as well as provide the opportunity for students to interact and network with federal judges and practitioners. A list of active* Law School Student Chapters by circuit is included below:

Starting a Chapter

The following steps should be taken to start a new Law School Student Chapter of the FBA.

  • Contact your Dean of Students or the law school administrator responsible for law student organizations to inform them of your desire to start an FBA Law School Student Chapter and coordinate with them to fulfill any necessary requirements for starting a Student Organization at your Law School and to designate a Faculty Advisor for your Law School Student Chapter (Note: All student chapters must designate a primary Faculty Advisor).
  • Email students@fedbar.org to connect with the supervising Professional Chapter for your region and work with them to draft bylaws and select leadership for your Law School Student Chapter.
  • Use this link to submit the online Agreement Form to FBA National Headquarters with an attached copy of your Bylaws as well as a Roster of at least five FBA Student Members who are actively enrolled in the program. (Note: Law Student Associate Membership is FREE to all new applicants. Learn More.)

New Law School Student Chapters must submit the online Agreement Form with accompanying Bylaws & Roster to be recognized by FBA National Headquarters and to be added to the list of Active Law School Student Chapters. Links to the online Agreement Form and the Sample Student Chapter Bylaws are included in the resources section found at the bottom of the page.

Annual Renewals

Existing Law School Student Chapters must complete the annual Agreement Form and upload a current Roster in order to renew with FBA National Headquarters. Each Law School Student Chapter must submit the annual agreement form online to FBA National Headquarters within 30 days of its elections of new officers, but in no event later than August 1 of each year.
