The Rise and Fall of the Constitutional "Knock and Announce" Rule

This past term the Supreme Court delivered the constitutional "knock and announce" rule its coup de grace. Although the Court had already riddled the “knock and announce” rule with exceptions in various prior decisions, Hudson v. Michigan is important in that it definitively confirmed the rule’s status as a second-tier constitutional right. However, Hudson may ultimately have far more significant consequences.
