Pathways to the Bench

First-person videos are personal stories of judges who overcame adversity to serve on the federal bench. Each judge has a motivational message that has broad applications across many audiences. The narratives also provide glimpses into contemporary American history.

Preparation Time: Judges and lawyers spend 30 minutes identifying and reviewing the video(s) of interest to their audiences.
 
Program Duration: Discussions can be 15-30 minutes or longer, depending on the time available.

Audiences:
Middle school through university students; adults and lifelong learners.

Topics:
Videos make timely presentations throughout the year, including Heritage Months. Here is a partial list:

  • African American History Month: February
  • Women’s History Month: March
  • Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month: April
  • Hispanic Heritage Month: September 15-October 15

Format: Selected Pathways to the Bench video(s) followed by discussion.
