Sustaining Membership (SM)
Sustaining membership is open to any person admitted to the practice of law before a federal court or a court of record in any of the several states, commonwealths, territories, or possessions of the United States or in the District of Columbia.

You distinguish yourself when you becoming a Sustaining Member of the Association. Sixty dollars of the sustaining dues are used to support educational programs and publications of the FBA. Sustaining Members receive a 5% discount on the registration fees for all national meetings and national CLE events. They also receive recognition in The Federal Lawyer Magazine and one free CLE webinar per year (a $99 value!).

Active Membership
Active membership is open to any person admitted to the practice of law before a federal court or a court of record in any of the several states, commonwealths, territories, or possessions of the United States or in the District of Columbia.

Law Student Associate and Foreign Associate Membership
Associate Memberships include all admitted to practice law before a court or administrative tribunal of a country other than the United States of America as well as any law student actively enrolled in an accredited law school and not admitted to the practice of law before a federal court or a court of record in any of the several states, commonwealths, territories, or possessions of the United States or in the District of Columbia.

Law Students are ineligible to become a part of the FBA’s Younger Lawyers Division. The Younger Lawyers Division is for FBA members who (i) are 36 years of age and under or (ii) have been admitted to practice for three years or less. You must be a practicing attorney to become a member of the Younger Lawyers Division.
