Webinar: Mediating in the Era of Coronavirus: Effectively Conducting A Zoom Mediation – Tips & Considerations for Mediators & Representatives

In this timely, one hour Webinar, experienced mediators Simeon H. Baum (www.mediators.com), Henry M. Quillian III, of Taylor & English and Bay Mediation & Arbitration Services, and Alexander J. Zimmer (www.ajzimmerlaw.com) will lead participants through a nuts and bolts presentation on how to conduct a mediation via Zoom or other alternative to in-person sessions. The Program will present an overview of mediation; identify issues and challenges in participating in mediation without the benefit of in-person presence; offer recommendations for offsetting these challenges; and walk participants through the mechanics and components off an online Zoom mediation session. This program is geared to both mediators and to representatives of parties participating in a Zoom mediation.

About the Presenters

Simeon H. Baum, President of Resolve Mediation Services, Inc., (www.mediators.com), has, since the early 1990s, successfully mediated or arbitrated nearly 2,000 disputes. He is the past Chair of the FBA’s ADR Section, past President of the SDNY Chapter, and a former FBA national Board member, and has taken leadership roles on ADR in Bar Associations across the US. He advises the New York Court system on ADR and has trained their Commercial Division mediators for over 20 years. In 2011, 2014, 2018 and 2020, Best Lawyers selected Mr. Baum as New York’s ADR “Lawyer of the Year.” He teaches on the ADR faculty at Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. SimeonHB@mediators.com.

Henry M. Quillian III acts as a mediator and arbitrator providing services through Bay Mediation & Arbitration Services LLC. He has a long history representing clients nationally and internationally in litigation and arbitration and in solving commercial disputes in the construction, real estate, insurance, intellectual property and general business sectors. He was voted by peers as a Top 100 lawyer for eleven consecutive years in Georgia Super Lawyers’ poll and has been selected since 1997 as one of Georgia’s Legal Elite by Georgia Trend Magazine. From 2013 to 2020, he was selected for the “Best Lawyers in America.” He is “AV” rated by Martindale-Hubbell.

Mr. Quillian has served the Federal Bar Association as national general counsel, as Atlanta Chapter president and as National Younger Lawyers chair.; and is Immediate Past President of the Foundation of the Federal Bar Association.

Alexander J. Zimmer (www.ajzimmerlaw.com) has an active law and mediation practice in New York City. His work in mediation includes both family and commercial cases and his background includes a decade of experience as a principal in an asset-based lending firm. This combination of legal and business experience informs Mr. Zimmer’s unique appreciation of the points of view of all players in the mediation process.

He is the current Chair of the FBA’s ADR Section, and a member of the Executive Committee of the New York State Bar Association Dispute Resolution Section and a member of the DRS Mediation Committee. alex@ajzimmerlaw.com.
