Southern District of Illinois Chapter: 2023 Women in the Law Symposium
Women who work in the legal profession often face unique challenges and obstacles. The Southern District of Illinois chapter of the Federal Bar Association is dedicated to facilitating necessary conversations to expose the imbalance placed on women in the legal profession and to tell the story of women who have overcome significant hurdles to serve as leaders in the law throughout the federal bar. Join us as we look back at the inspiring paths several women in our legal community have taken and forward to the work that still lies ahead.
Our featured speaker will be the Honorable Tammy Duckworth, United States Senator for Illinois. Senator Duckworth is an Iraq War Veteran, a Purple Heart recipient, and a former Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. She was among the first handful of Army women to fly combat missions during Operation Iraqi Freedom and served in the Reserve Forces for 23 years before retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 2014. She represented Illinois’s Eighth Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives for two terms before being elected to the United States Senate in 2016.
