The Intellectual Property Law Section of the FBA is hosting a casual webinar full of valuable information for any law student interested in a career in Intellectual Property Law. Looking for an exciting and challenging career in copyrights, patents, and/or trademarks? About the Presenters

Ira Cohen, Partner, Henkel & Cohen, P.A. (Moderator)

IPLS Chair Ira Cohen, Esq. is a Partner of Henkel & Cohen, P.A. in Miami, FL. Ira is a Member of the Florida and New York Bars, the various District Courts in FL and NY, the First, Second, Sixth, Seventh, Ninth, Eleventh, and Federal Circuit Courts of Appeal, as well as the United States Supreme Court. He has been rated AV Preeminent® by Martindale Hubbell. He has been practicing Intellectual Property Law for almost 40 years. Ira served from 1982-1985 as Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable Harold J. Raby, United States Magistrate (Judge) for the Southern District of New York (1982-85). He is a proud and active Member of the Federal Bar Association (“FBA”), a Life Fellow of the Foundation of the FBA, and FBA Moot Court Judge, and Columns Editor for The Federal Lawyer, the publication of the FBA.

Olivera Medenica, Partner, Dunnington Bartholow & Miller LLP

Olivera Medenica is a member of Dunnington’s intellectual property, advertising, art and fashion law, international, litigation and arbitration and France desk practice areas with almost two decades of experience advising domestic and foreign businesses in fashion, retail, media and entertainment on transactional, litigation and arbitration matters. Prior to joining Dunnington, Ms. Medenica was a law clerk to the Honorable Evan J. Wallach at the U.S. Court of International Trade. She subsequently practiced for fifteen years at boutique intellectual property firms in New York City. Ms. Medenica regularly counsels on trademark, copyright, intellectual property licensing and online/social media matters. Litigation counseling includes copyright and trademark infringement, trade secrets, unfair competition, breach of contract, fraud, right of publicity and privacy, defamation, and shareholder and business owner disputes in closely held businesses. Trademark practice includes counseling on risk evaluation for trademark use and registration, registering, prosecuting, policing, enforcing and maintaining a national and international trademark portfolio, together with representing clients before the U.S. Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. She represents the National Endowment for the Arts on intellectual property matters.

Paul Supnik, Attorney, Law Office of Paul D. Supnik

Paul D. Supnik practices trademark and copyright law in Beverly Hills, California.  He helps businesses identify and register their trademarks in the United States and abroad, helps clients determine their rights involving copyright matters, prepares contracts involving copyright, trademark and entertainment related issues, and  litigates disputes involving copyright and trademark matters.  He is a member of the bars of the Central District of California, and the Ninth and Federal Circuit Courts of Appeal.  He has practiced in the intellectual property area for over 40 years.  Paul is a former president of the Los Angeles Copyright Society, and a former chair of the Entertainment and Intellectual Property Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association.  He serves on the ADR Mediation Panel for the Central District of California for copyright and trademark matters and on the Independent Film and Television Alliance panel of arbitrators.  Paul is a co-author of the publication: The Essential Guide to Entertainment Law: Intellectual Property (2018).  He attended UC Hastings College of Law and received a B.S. Engr. from UCLA.

Mike Villarreal, Registered Patent Attorney, Gunn, Lee & Cave, P.C.

Miguel Villarreal, Jr. is a registered patent attorney specializing in all aspects of intellectual property, with an emphasis on litigation, primarily patent, trademark and copyright infringement actions. His practice also includes counseling clients in the areas of unfair competition, trade secrets, and licensing matters. Mr. Villarreal also prosecutes patent and trademark applications and handles various trademark proceedings before the U.S. Trademark Trial and Appeal Board of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Mr. Villarreal is fluent in Spanish. As one of the only Spanish-speaking patent attorneys in the San Antonio area, Mr. Villarreal is uniquely qualified to and counsels and advises international clients from several Spanish speaking countries, including Mexico and Central and South America, on a variety of intellectual property matters.
