Filing for Freedom – Marietta, GA
The Tax Sections of the Atlanta Bar, Georgia Bar, American Bar (Pro Bono & Low Income Taxpayer Committee), and Federal Bar, as well as the Georgia Society of CPAs joined forces to offer volunteer tax preparation services for military personnel and their families at Dobbins Air Reserve Base in Marietta, Georgia. The “adopt a base” service is supported by the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA) and the Department of Defense as well as many local businesses, including, the Atlanta Braves, Home Depot, and Chick fil A. The program takes place one weekend per month in February, March, and April. Chuck Hodges, a member of the FBA Tax Section who helped establish the program stated that to date, there have been over 90 volunteers to assist military families.
