In Memoriam – Judith (Judy) Anderson
Judy served as the Chapter President for the Northern District of California, Federal Bar Association in 2011, capping off years of service as a Chapter Vice President for the San Francisco Division, event organizer and avid champion of the Federal Bar and Bench. Judy, for years, organized the annual program with the Regional Director, or other official, of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) where she worked, as Assistant Regional Director.
With Judy as President, the Chapter hosted its 32nd Annual Luncheon Honoring Judges of the Ninth Circuit and Northern District of CA, as well as the 9th Cir. Judges Dinner. The Chapter sponsored the Inductions of Magistrate Judge Laurel Beeler (a former Chapter President) and District Judge Lucy H. Koh to the Bench, organized a Meet the New Magistrates program for MJ Donna Ryu and MJ Laurel Beeler at the Oakland Courthouse, hosted the reception for Judges Chesney and Seeborg in San Francisco, coordinated with Judge Breyer to see the Attorney Lounge created at the San Jose Courthouse, sponsored exceptional programming on topics pertinent to federal practice, including Chief Judge Walker’s “Cameras in the Courtroom”, Bankruptcy Panel, Patent Panel, Appellate Advocacy, Supreme Court Update and advocated for additional Federal judgeships to address the chronic staffing needs of the Court.
Judy was a champion for women in the law, providing an example of stamina and perseverance for her colleagues. As remembered by her fellow past Northern District of California Chapter President Peter Boutin, “Judy possessed all of the qualities I admire in a person, she was incredibly bright, analytical, fair-minded, thoughtful, courteous, and committed to justice. And she always had a radiant smile and a great story about her most recent cycling trip!”
We will always remember that smile!
Services were Sunday, January 16, 2022, with an in-person chapel service at Edwards Dowdle Funeral Home in Dobbs Ferry, New York (also on via Zoom). Condolences can be mailed to the family c/o Larry Lefkowitz, 99 Clent Road, #B105, Great Neck, NY 11021.
