The section had a busy Pride Month last year! On June 11, the section hosted an LGBTQ+ pro bono showcase, highlighting some of the most impactful LGBTQ+ focused legal work that organizations are performing nationwide to help individuals and discussed how practitioners can support such efforts. The webinar featured speakers who perform legal work for members of the LGBTQ+ community who are facing issues in areas such as immigration, asylum, gender identity, and child custody, among others, and they provided the audience an insider’s view as to what LGBTQ+ focused pro bono work looks like in different areas of law, showed how legal organizations partner with law firms to provide meaningful representation to LGBTQ+ individuals and families, and offered practical tips for those who want to engage in this work, regardless of their practice setting.
On June 16, the section hosted a CLE webinar on the Title VII landscape one year after the Bostock v. Clayton County Supreme Court decision and the implications of that decision on the LGBTQ+ community. The panel also provided practical tips and considerations for LGBTQ+ employees facing discrimination issues in the workplace. The webinar featured Chinyere Ezie from the Center for Constitutional Rights, Omar Gonzalez-Pagan from Lambda Legal, and Jennifer Levi from GLAD.
