Dear Members,
I am honored to step into the role of Chair for the Federal Bar Association’s Intellectual Property Section during this transformative era for IP law. The United States is witnessing a significant strengthening of intellectual property rights, marked by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s substantial reduction of inter partes review proceedings and advancing legislation addressing patent-eligible subject matter.
In this dynamic landscape, our Section is committed to keeping you informed about these pivotal developments. We also recognize the profound impact of artificial intelligence on the legal profession. Embracing AI is not just an option; it’s imperative for staying at the forefront of our field. This year, we will focus on equipping our members with the knowledge and tools to integrate AI effectively into their practices.
Aligned with the Federal Bar Association’s mission to support the federal judiciary, we invite you to actively participate in our Section’s initiatives. Consider joining one of our committees—Patents, Trademarks, Trade Secrets, or Copyrights—to collaborate with peers and contribute to the advancement of IP law.
I am excited about the opportunities ahead and grateful for your dedication to our shared mission. Together, we will navigate these changes and continue to uphold the highest standards of our profession.
Warm regards,
Stephen F.W. Ball, Jr.
Chair, Intellectual Property Section
