Webinar: What Social Media Really Knows About You (Reschedule to Later Date)

May 24, 2022 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

To Be Rescheduled to a Later Date

You probably know that websites track how you are using them, but do you know how they keep track of you?

Data privacy is a growing concern in this booming digital age where nearly everyone accesses powerhouse networks, like Google and Facebook. Due to existing security settings, most of us may be unaware of the extent of information that’s being captured online. Do you know if you are being monitored offline and unintentionally sharing personal information? How can you opt-out and practice better digital hygiene?

Join this webinar to learn the answers to those questions and more!  Ovie Carroll, Director of the Department of Justice’s Cybercrime Lab, will give you valuable steps you can take to protect your privacy online.

Presented by the Professional Development Task Force as part of member appreciation month.

About the Speaker

Ovie Carroll, Director, Cybercrime Lab, U.S. Department of Justice
Ovie (Wan Kenobi) Carroll is not actually a Jedi Master as his name suggests, rather he is the Director and Chief Uber Geek of the Department of Justice Cybercrime Lab.  Ovie has over 36 years of law enforcement experience and only through the miracles of plastic surgery does he look 26 years old.  Ovie spends a majority of his days trying to find the equipoise between over and under caffeinated.

Ovie’s life is a fascinating journey of a small boy who grew to be a big kid while accidentally spending 4 years in Special Operations. He went on to “do a lot of drugs” (as a special agent working gangs and narcotics in Southern California and Florida). After a long nuisance legal battle he initiated alleging the DOJ did not have a representative number of short bald Irishmen, Ovie was ultimately was hired in 2006 by the DOJ to establish a cybercrime lab to support over 10,000 needy and often unappreciated prosecutors across the DOJ.

Ovie is an internationally known speakers, having just returned from SE Asia training judges and prosecutors in digital evidence. Ovie is requested as a speaker not necessarily because of his expertise in the field, but rather because he is frequently mistaken as Brad Pitt or Chris Hemsworth. In fact, for those who have not seen the movie Marvel EndGame, Ovie was the inspiration for and the body stunt double for Thor.

Policy dictates we tell you that the opinions given in his presentation are his and not necessarily shared by his reasonable-minded benevolent government overlords. Please forgive the training organizers for the following presentation.
