Theme: Effective Advocacy in the Federal Courts
Information on the Panel Presentations:
The Pretrial/Post-Trial Issues Panel will focus on the following: (1) pleadings and written advocacy, (2) oral
advocacy at hearings, (3) discovery disputes and motions for attorney’s fees, and (4) plea hearings, sentencing,
and supervised release hearings. If you have questions or additional topics you would like to pose to the Panel,

The Trial Issues Panel will focus on the following: (1) effective closing arguments, (2) use of technology (the
effective and the ineffective), (3) jury trial advocacy, and (4) bench trial advocacy. If you have questions or
additional topics you would like to pose to the Panel, e-mail Thomas Walker at Thomas.Walker@alston.com.
The Magistrate Judge Panel will focus on the following: (1) discovery disputes and (2) electronic litigation
matters. If you have questions or additional topics you would like to pose to the Panel, e-mail Caroline

CLE: Application will be made for 6 hours of N.C. State Bar CLE credit.
