Section on Taxation: Crossing the Bridge – How to Transition Seamlessly from Student to Practitioner

Join the FBA Section on Taxation for a discussion about how to successfully make the transition from student to practitioner. Our esteemed panelists will offer their perspectives and some tips and tricks for how to ramp up as efficiently as possible and position yourself as a go to person in your organization after starting, regardless of the practice setting. The panel will also address how to navigate common challenges emerging practitioners face once on the job, how to overcome those challenges with grace, and how best to learn on your feet.

Kristin Gutting, Principal, FORVIS

Kristin Gutting is a Principal at FORVIS in Charleston, SC.  Kristin focuses her practice on tax controversy and procedure.  Prior to joining FORVIS, Kristin spent time working in professional accounting and law firms.  She also taught several tax courses at the Charleston School of Law.  Kristin earned her LLM from the University of Florida and her JD from the Saint Louis University School of Law.  She earned her undergraduate degree from Valparaiso University

 

 

Daniel Strickland, Holland & Knight LLP

Daniel Strickland is a Senior Counsel in Holland & Knight’s Washington, D.C., office. Daniel focuses his practice in the area of federal tax controversy, representing taxpayers in all types of tax controversy matters. He also focuses his practice in the renewable energy sector, advising clients on energy tax credits and incentives from conception to litigation. Prior to joining Holland & Knight, Daniel was an attorney for a global law firm in its Washington, D.C., office. And he served as a law clerk at the U.S. Tax Court for Judge Albert G. Lauber, Chief Judge Michael B. Thornton, and Judge Elizabeth Crewson Paris. Daniel earned his LLM in taxation from the Georgetown University Law Center and his JD from the Charleston School of law. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of South Carolina.

Zenia Memon, Senior Associate, KPMG

Zenia Memon is a senior associate with KPMG where she advises clients on a variety of international tax planning issues arising from pre- and post-tax reform provisions. Prior to joining KPMG, Zenia practiced international tax as an associate at Kostelanetz and a senior associate at PwC’s Washington National Tax Services group. She is an alumni of both the J.D. and Tax LL.M. programs at Georgetown University Law Center.
