Oklahoma City Chapter: Considering and Reconsidering Qualified Immunity
The Oklahoma City Chapter of the Federal Bar Association is pleased to offer a virtual CLE addressing the doctrine of qualified immunity from civil rights claims brought under 42 U.S.C. § 1983 (part of the Civil Rights Act of 1871).
Although the doctrine is widely applied, scholars, judges and even some Supreme Court justices have suggested that the doctrine is not grounded in the statute and is subject to question. In light of recent events involving alleged police brutality, some congresspersons have introduced amendments in both the U.S. House and Senate to end or modify qualified immunity.
About the Presenters
Michael Salem, Esq. is a distinguished civil rights practitioner and recipient of numerous awards for courageous advocacy, will seek to raise a lively discussion about the place of qualified immunity in a system of ordered liberty.
