New Orleans Chapter: Impacts of Social Movements in the Workplace CLE

Join the New Orleans Chapter of the FBA and Greater New Orleans Chapter of the Louis A. Martinet Society as Monique Gougisha Doucette, Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart, P.C., and Melanie C. Lockett, Lowe, Stein, Hoffman, Allweiss & Hauver L.L.P., present a CLE entitled Impacts of Social Movements in the Workplace . Employers have long-faced changes to labor and employment laws due to social movements. The recent movements such as #BlackLivesMatter, #MeToo, #LoveWins have thrusted issues of workplace inequality and diversity into the spotlight. This one-hour CLE will share recent developments in the labor and employment law resulting from social movements, and provide practical tips to minimize legal risk and improve workplace diversity. This CLE is free to all, but registration is required.


About the Presenters

Monique Gougisha Doucette, Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart, P.C.
Ms. Doucette is an Ogletree Deakins shareholder in New Orleans, Louisiana. She practices primarily in the area of employment litigation and represents management in claims arising under various federal and state employment laws. Ms. Doucette has significant experience litigating employment matters in a variety of business sectors such as construction, energy, banking and hospitality. She also has expertise in workplace misconduct, sexual harassment issues and internal investigations. Ms. Doucette regularly conducts customized workplace respect and anti-harassment training for employers.

Melanie C. Lockett, Lowe, Stein, Hoffman, Allweiss & Hauver L.L.P.
Melanie Lockett enjoys a diverse litigation practice which includes insurance coverage and defense, education, commercial litigation, employment law, professional liability, and family law.
Melanie has litigated cases in Louisiana state and federal courts. She has also successfully appealed cases to Louisiana Courts of Appeal and Louisiana Supreme Court. Melanie’s innovative and diligent approach to representing defendants has led to notable successes including thwarting efforts to expand an insurance agent’s duty in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. City Blueprint & Supply Co. v. Boggio, 3 So.3d 62 (La. App. 4 Cir. 12/17/08), relied upon in Isidore Newman School v. Eaves, Inc., 42 So.3d 352 (La. 7/13/10). Melanie’s unrelenting character has also led to success on behalf of plaintiffs including professors seeking to enforce obligations arising out of tenure contracts, professors and students involved in and challenging university level disciplinary decisions, and employees faced with employment discrimination.
