Lafayette-Acadiana Chapter: Bankruptcy and Mudbugs: A Seminar Highlighting Important Bankruptcy Concepts Every Attorney Should Know [With Crawfish and Beverages on the Side]

April 28, 2022 @ 8:00 am - 5:30 pm

Regardless of your practice area, at some point in your legal career you will likely cross paths with bankruptcy law. These intersections may range from advising clients contemplating bankruptcy, to those who have claims against a debtor, to those who may have been sued in bankruptcy court by a trustee for the recovery of a preferential transfer or fraudulent conveyance. This course will provide an overview of the various chapters and types of bankruptcies available to individuals and businesses. It will also provide a description of the roles of the typical players in a bankruptcy case and an overview of key creditor and debtor issues in bankruptcy. You will also hear from United States District Court Judge Robert Summerhays, Chief Bankruptcy Judge John Kolwe, and Bankruptcy Clerk of Court Ted Takara on how the bankruptcy court works and operates. Additionally, you will learn about common intersections between bankruptcy and other areas of the law and receive an update on proposed reforms to the bankruptcy system. All of this will be followed by crawfish and beverages in the parking lot adjacent to the Lafayette Federal Courthouse. What’s more, one of Lafayette’s premier events is set to kick off following the crawfish boil: Festival International.

Don’t miss this opportunity to earn six (6) CLE hours and learn more about bankruptcy and how it may impact your clients and your practice.
