Admiralty Law Section: Admiralty and Maritime Law Issues Affecting the Plaintiff’s Bar

This roundtable will discuss current issues affecting the maritime plaintiff’s bar. Topics will include: “905 (b) duty to provide safe access in a non-stevedoring, non-shipyard environment.  Rockets, barges and vessel to vessel transfers at sea, oh my!” and “Maintenance and Cure: Ancient remedy—modern applications.” The two speakers will be moderated by our CLE Chair, Charles Davant but the object is for attendees to have an open discussion, ask questions and discuss other issues affecting the maritime plaintiff’s bar.

About the Speakers

Charles D. Naylor, Attorney at Law, Law Offices of Charles D. Naylor

Charles D. Naylor has been a maritime personal injury trial lawyer in the state and federal courts of Southern California for more than 40 years. During his career, Mr. Naylor has successfully settled or tried hundreds of cases arising from injuries occurring in the ports of Los Angeles, Long Beach and seamen working around the world.

Mr. Naylor enjoys a national reputation among his peers for his strict adherence to the highest standards of ethics, quality of work, and successful prosecution of injury cases. In 2007 he was a finalist for the Consumer Attorney of the Year Award presented by the Consumer Attorneys of California and in 2008 was a recipient of California Lawyer Magazine’s prestigious CLAY Award for his successful representation of a longshore worker’s widow in a wrongful death/LHWCA/product liability jury trial against then DaimlerChrysler. In 2020, Mr. Naylor was named a Southern California Lawyer Of The Year Honoree in Admiralty & Maritime Law by Best Lawyers. Mr. Naylor also has an AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell and has been recognized by Southern California Super Lawyers as one of the “top attorneys in southern California” since 2007.

Adria G. Notari, Yacht & Cruise Injury Lawyer, NOTARI LAW, P.A.

From the wheelhouse to the courthouse, Adria Notari has been in the maritime industry her entire adult life.  She is a graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point and of St. Thomas University School of Law in Miami.  Before becoming an attorney, she was a seafarer aboard cargo ships and served in the U.S. Naval Reserve, attaining the rank of lieutenant.

Adria is a solo practitioner dedicated to helping injured seafarers, cruise ship passengers, and boating accident victims.  She is an active member of the Fort Lauderdale Mariners Club Seminar Committee and WISTA, and a vice chair of the Admiralty Law Committee of the Florida Bar.
