Karla General

Karla General is Associate Legal Counsel for the Seneca Nation, a federally-recognized Indian Nation of 8,500 members, where she works in-house as a government attorney. Before moving to Western New York in 2017, Mrs. General worked as an attorney with the Indian Law Resource Center in Washington, DC, to promote and defend the rights of indigenous peoples in North, Central, and South America, and to raise awareness of indigenous peoples’ rights to self-determination of their lands and resources, and to combat systemic injustice. She is a graduate of the Syracuse University College of Law and the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs where she earned her JD and MA. She received her BA from St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY. Mrs. General is Deer Clan, a citizen of the Mohawk Nation, and was raised on the Akwesasne Mohawk Territory. She serves as Secretary of the Communities of Giving Legacy Initiative for the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo and as Treasurer of the Federal Bar Association’s Indian Law Section Board.
