Welcome to the website of the Judicial Intern Academy (JIA)!
Powered by the Judiciary Division of the Federal Bar Association, the JIA provides summer internships to rising 2L students who, for personal or financial considerations, are unable to devote their summer to a full-time, 40-hour per week judicial internship. The JIA requires a commitment of 20 hours per week for 8 weeks in June and July. Students are given a weekly schedule that includes remote programming and in-person observations in both federal and state courts.
The JIA is now a national program of the Federal Bar Association, having provided internships to dozens of law students since its launch in 2022. Since inception, the students from 12 local FBA Chapters and 10 judicial districts have participated in the program, including: the South District of Florida, Northern District of Georgia, Northern District of California, Northern and Southern Districts of Ohio, Eastern and Southern Districts of New York, District of Massachusetts, District of New Jersey, and District of Hawaii.
In 2026, the JIA is continuing its expansion and is working with FBA Chapter leaders and local judges to bring the JIA to even more districts and FBA Chapters. If you are interested in learning more about the JIA or bringing the JIA to your local FBA Chapter, please contact the National Chair of the Judicial Intern Academy, Tal Aburos, at tal.aburos@us.dlapiper.com.
