Message from the Chair
Section Chair:
Shomari Wade
Troutman Sanders LLP
Washington, D.C.
Greetings, I'm Shomari Wade, and I will be serving as Section Chair from October 1, 2011-September 30, 2012. I am an associate in the Maritime & Government Contracts Practice Group of Troutman Sanders and live in Washington, D.C. My practice focuses on bid protests at the federal, state and municipal level, trade law such as Buy American Act compliance and small business matters involving the SBA. I'm thrilled at the opportunity to lead the Section this coming year and look forward to working with our membership on exciting programming and networking events.

Our collective success as a Section this upcoming year is dependent on an active and engaged membership on our boards and committees. We're fortunate to have a number of dedicated members already who take time out of their busy schedules to plan events, host meetings, speak on panels and publish informative articles. However, we are always in need of other government contracting professionals who are willing to make a substantial contribution in leadership positions. There are several opportunities to chair or join a Section committee. If you are interested in the vacant board positions or are looking to join a committee, please
send me an email.
The Section has been successful in the past few years with putting on programming relevant to our membership, including teleconferences, luncheons and CLE panels. We are looking to continue this success and need motivated members to take the lead in developing programming for the Section. The FBA offers staff support and our Section has plenty of institutional knowledge to assist with program development. If you are interested in getting involved, please send an e-mail to me and Sherwin Valerio, the FBA manager of sections and divisions, and include in the subject line "Government Contracts Section."
Once again, I'm excited to be Chair of the Section this upcoming year and working with membership to provide substantive professional development and networking opportunities for government contract practitioners. We will build on the success of previous years with a robust schedule.
Thank you for your continued participation in the Government Contracts Section.
