Message from the President

Welcome to the South Carolina Chapter of the Federal Bar Association! With over 400 members, we are currently the second largest Chapter in the country. Each year we are proud to host a number of popular events for our members. These include our Annual Meeting and Federal Practice CLE in September, the “Introduction to Federal Practice” seminar series in Greenville, Columbia, and Charleston each summer, and several informal “Sidebar” lunches with our federal judges. We also have active Qui Tam, Criminal, and Employment practice groups, which host seminars and other events focusing on those specific areas of law.

For 2016-2017, our Chapter is excited to host several upcoming activities, including:

  • Schoolhouse to Courthouse civics events in Charleston, Columbia, and Greenville- April 2017
  • Human Trafficking Pro Bono Law Training CLE with the S.C. Attorney General’s Office- April 2017
  • Qui Tam Practice Group’s CLE with S.C. Bar- Spring 2017

The Chapter also supports its successful ongoing service project by providing mentors and helping to fund events for the District’s Drug Court Bridge Program, a voluntary program designed for individuals on pretrial or post-conviction release who suffer from substance abuse or addiction. In cooperation with the U. S. District Court, U.S. Probation Office, Federal Public Defender’s Office, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office, this program provides offender rehabilitation by implementing a blend of treatment and sanction alternatives. Our Chapter is proud to support this pioneering, nationally acclaimed drug court program.

Please actively participate and stay tuned for news of more 2016-17 events!
