The Middle District of Pennsylvania Chapter of the Federal Bar Association is the successor to the Central Pennsylvania Chapter, having changed its name and charter in 1997 to more closely identify with the local federal court in which its members practice. The chapter has a long history, but it emerged in its present, most active form in 1992. From that time, the chapter has grown from a handful of members to its present roster of more than 230 members, making it the largest chapter in the Third Circuit. More...
Recently, the Middle District of Pennsylvania celebrated the 20th Anniversary of its Pro Bono Mediation Program at the Bushkill Inn & Conference Center. In cooperation with the Middle District Federal Bar Association, the court sponsored six hours of expert-level mediation training, and honored the certified mediators who have donated their time and talent in over 3,000 pro bono mediation assignments since the program’s inception in April, 1994.
The Judicial Conference of the United States has authorized the appointment of a full-time United States Magistrate Judge for the U.S. District Court, Middle District of Pennsylvania at Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.
We are seeking volunteers to speak with high school classes about the Gideon case and what the "right to counsel" means in our court systems.
