SUMMARY:SDNY Chapter: Implicit Bias: Managing Cognitive and Interaction Issues in the Courtroom
DESCRIPTION:This in-person program will explore how implicit bias may taint our civil and criminal justice systems and what you can do to achieve more equitable results. The program will be led by leading experts on this topic and will include separate interactive workshops for lawyers and judges. It will offer 3 CLE credits in Diversity and Professional Practice (pending approval). The program will be followed by a reception. \n[Event Flyer] \nSpeakers\n1. Hon. Bernice Donald\, U.S. Circuit Judge for the Sixth Circuit (Ret.) – A trailblazing judge with over 100 awards. She also serves as faculty for the Federal Judicial Center and the National Judicial College. \n2. Professor Sarah Redfield of the University of New Hampshire School of Law – Nationally respected author\, presenter\, and trainer. Her work focuses on implicit bias and on strategies to interrupt that bias and reduce the negative consequences of its manifestations in legal and workplace environments. \n3. Elizabeth Kelley\, Attorney at Law – Elizabeth Kelley is a criminal defense lawyer with a nationwide practice focused on representing people with mental disabilities.
