The surprise event was coordinated with the help from Judge Ryskamp\u2019s law clerks and assistants, the Clerk of Court for the Southern District of Florida, and chapter members. <\/p>\n<p>Former Chief Judge Federico Moreno presented Judge Ryskamp with a crystal vase engraved with the names of all the judges with whom Judge Ryskamp has served over the past 30 years and the flag of the Southern District court. The Chapter Officers adopted an eagles\u2019 nest in Haines, Alaska for Judge Ryskamp, because he is particularly fond of eagles. This month\u2019s speaker was Professor Bruce Rogow. Professor Rogow has been a professor of law at Nova Southeastern University Law Center in Fort Lauderdale since 1974, and has taught courses on Civil Procedure, Federal Jurisdiction, Constitutional Law, Appellate Practice, Criminal Law and Legal Ethics. Professor Rogow has also litigated extensively over the past 48 years, having argued over 450 civil and criminal cases in federal and state appellate courts, including eleven cases before the United States Supreme Court. Professor Rogow provided an informative and entertaining discussion on the history of civil rights litigation over the past 50 years, including on issues such as the right to counsel and racial, gender and disability discrimination. Professor Rogow also provided his insights on the future of civil rights litigation, including on issues such as affirmative action, marriage equality and reproductive rights.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<div class=\"blueline_divider\"><\/div>\n<p><font size=\"4\"><strong><br>\nSecond 2012-2013 Chapter Luncheon<\/strong><\/font><\/p>\n<div class=\"floatl\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fedbar.org\/palm-beach-chapter\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/81\/2019\/10\/pbcty2_tn-jpg.jpeg\" class=\"img-fluid\"> <\/div>\n<p>The Palm Beach County Chapter of the Federal Bar Association held its second luncheon of the 2012-13 season on Friday, December 7, 2012 at the Colony Hotel. The chapter presented a plaque to Immediate Past President Kelly Reagan, in recognition of his outstanding service in the office of President during the 2011-2012 season. This month\u2019s speaker was Murray Greenberg, Retired Miami-Dade County Attorney and Adjunct Professor of election law and state and local government law at the University of Miami School of Law, FIU College of Law and St. Thomas University College of Law. At the event attended by members of the judiciary and the local bar, the chapter presented West Palm Beach\u2019s newest United States Magistrate Judges, William Matthewman and Dave Lee Brannon, with ceremonial gavels. The officers for the 2012-13 season (Jason Lazarus, President; Peggy Stumhofer, President-Elect; Ryon McCabe, Secretary; Heather Ries, Treasurer; and Sally Still, National Delegate) were installed. Congratulations and thanks to our Immediate Past President, Kelly Reagan, for his outstanding service as President. This month\u2019s speaker was Professor Michael Allen of Stetson University College of Law. Professor Allen was thoroughly informative and entertaining as he discussed the 2011-12 term of the United States Supreme Court and his predictions regarding the Supreme Court\u2019s upcoming term. Professor Allen teaches a number of courses at Stetson, including Constitutional Law, Civil Procedure, and the Federal Courts and the Federal System. Professor Allen also serves as the Associate Dean for Faculty Development and Strategic Initiatives and the Director of Stetson\u2019s Veterans Law Institute. Out of the 11 years that Professor Allen has been teaching at Stetson, he has won the school\u2019s best professor award an amazing seven times! <\/p>\n<p>Our next luncheon will be held on Friday, December 7, 2012 at the Colony Hotel, and will feature guest speaker Murray Greenberg, an Adjunct Professor at the University of Miami School of Law, FIU College of Law and St. Thomas University School of Law, and Retired Miami-Dade County Attorney. The bi-annual event includes a full day of educational sessions with panels of district court judges, magistrate judges, and bankruptcy judges. During the evening reception, retiring Magistrate Judge Ann Vitunac was honored, and her portrait unveiled to a standing room only crowd. Judge Vitunac was joined by a number of her former law clerks and judicial assistants at the podium during the reception.
