SUMMARY:New Orleans Chapter: The Art and Science of Judging CLE
DESCRIPTION:October 28\, 2021 | 12:00-1:30 p.m. CST  \n\n\n\n\nJoin the New Orleans Chapter of the FBA on Thursday\, October 28\, 2021 from 12-1:30 pm as the Hon. Greg G. Guidry and Professor Holger Spamann present a CLE on The Art and Science of Judging. \nThis CLE will discuss the judicial decision-making process\, both from the perspective of an esteemed professor who has conducted research on the topic\, as well as that of a seasoned jurist now sitting on the federal bench. The panel will explore topics\, including how judges decide cases\, what personal experiences influence their rulings\, and how they approach and educate themselves regarding implicit bias\, as well as reforms aimed to promote impartiality and accountability in the judicial branch. \nThis CLE is free for all interested participants\, but is only pre approved for CLE credit in Louisiana. \n\nAbout the Presenters\nJudge Guidry is a two-time LSU graduate\, as well as a graduate of the National Judicial College\, who has an unparalleled perspective on the judicial process and judicial decision-making after seeing it from every from virtually every vantagepoint. Judge Guidry started his legal career in private practice before serving as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Louisiana and later becoming an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Eastern District of Louisiana. Judge Guidry then started his tenure as a jurist in 2000 in the 24th Judicial District of Louisiana and has since served at every level of Louisiana’s judiciary\, including as a Justice on the Louisiana Supreme Court from 2009-2019 . In 2019\, Judge Guidry was appointed and confirmed to the bench of the Eastern District of Louisiana\, where he now serves. \nHolger Spamann is the Lawrence R. Grove Professor of Law at Harvard Law School\, where he teaches corporate law and corporate finance. His research focuses on judicial behavior\, as well as the law and economics of corporate governance and financial markets\, and comparative law. Before embarking on his academic career\, he practiced with Debevoise & Plimpton in New York and clerked for two years in Europe.
