DESCRIPTION:The United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio Federal Practice Seminar is open to all attorneys\, including those already admitted to practice in the Southern District of Ohio and those seeking admission. This seminar is specially designed for lawyers seeking admission to practice in the Southern District of Ohio. Speakers will discuss practice before the District Judges and Magistrate Judges\, and practice in Bankruptcy Court. Speakers will also discuss the Local Rules\, the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure\, and the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure. \nAll attorneys seeking admission to the bar of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio must attend one such seminar. It is offered twice per year in Cincinnati. DESCRIPTION:This roundtable will address recent experience with IRS audits of partnerships\, including both legacy TEFRA issues and new BBA issues.  The panelists will also discuss the recently announced partnership audit initiative and its potential effects on the future of partnership compliance and examinations going forward. \n\nAbout the Presenters\nKat Saunders Gregor\, Partner\, Ropes & Gray LLP \nKat is a tax partner and co-founder of the Tax Controversy Group. Kat regularly handles disputes with the IRS\, DOL and other administrative bodies\, and assists clients in managing disputes with non-U.S. tax authorities. Kat represents public companies\, private investment funds\, institutional investors\, private companies and high net worth individuals before the U.S. Tax Court\, U.S. Court of Federal Claims and other federal and state courts. \nJoshua Wu\, Counsel\, Latham & Watkins LLP \nJoshua Wu\, former Deputy Assistant Attorney General (DAAG) for Appellate and Review in the Tax Division of the US Department of Justice (DOJ)\, counsels and advocates for companies and high net worth individuals on all aspects of tax controversies and litigation.  Mr. Wu advises on issues ranging from tax accounting disputes\, to corporate and partnership transactional issues\, international questions\, employee benefits matters\, and tax exempt controversies. Check the program page for updates as programming is added. \n\nAbout the Presenters\nPaige White\, Trial Attorney (Moderator) \n  \n  \n  \nSteve Marcus\, Staff Attorney\, Special Litigation \nSteve Marcus is an attorney in the Special Litigation Division at the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia\, where he represents individuals in post-conviction proceedings and challenges systemic injustice through affirmative civil rights litigation. Previously\, Steve served as a law clerk to Judge Harry Edwards of the D.C. Circuit and to Judge Jesse Furman of the Southern District of New York. He holds a J.D. from New York University School of Law\, where he was a Root-Tilden-Kern public interest scholar and Articles Editor of the Law Review\, and a B.A. from Princeton University. \nJason Tulley\, Supervising Attorney and Former Training Director\, Trial Division \nJason D. Tulley is currently a Supervisor in the Trial Division at the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia (PDS). Prior to that he was the Training Director where he trained all the new attorney at PDS for five years and trained over one hundred of the court appointed private attorneys in Superior Court. For the five years before that\, Mr. Tulley was Special Counsel for Forensics and Expert services where he led the organization’s nationally renowned Forensic Practice Group which focuses on litigation of science issues from DNA to fingerprints to the psychology of eyewitness identification and manages the agency’s budget for expert witnesses.  Mr. Tulley has been at PDS for eighteen years where he has tried murder\, sexual assault\, and other major felony cases as well as worked on the forensic issues for the D.C. exoneration cases which led to the FBI Hair review.  He is also past Chair of NACDL’s Forensic Science Committee\, where he worked on a national level to ensure scientifically sound forensic practices and education for the defense bar in all forensic disciplines.  Prior to working in D.C.\, Mr. Tulley was an attorney in the Trial Division of New York City’s Capital Defender Officer\, where as a Deputy Capital Defender he represented indigent persons facing death penalty charges.  Before moving to New York\, Mr. Tulley was an associate for Bennett & Nathans\, LLP\, a small Maryland law firm that handled state and federal civil and criminal cases\, including a substantial capital defense practice.  He graduated from the State University of New York at Binghamton in 1992\, and then the University of Maryland School Of Law in 1995. \nJennifer Williams\, Staff Attorney\, Appeals \nInterested in one of our other PDSDC divisions – Parole\, Juvenile Services\, Prisoner Reentry Legal Services\, Mental Health\, Civil Legal Services (including special education and immigration)?
