He drafts invalidity opinions\, investigates freedom to operate\, counsels on strategic portfolio management\, and conducts due diligence investigations prior to acquisition or merger. \n  \nJonathan Slack\, Assistant U.S. Attorney\, Criminal Division\, U.S. Attorney’s Office – District of Hawaii\nJonathan Slack is an Assistant United States Attorney in the Criminal Division of the United States Attorney’s Office (USAO) for the District of Hawaii.  As a criminal AUSA in a smaller USAO\, Jonathan is a generalist prosecutor who handles criminal offenses ranging from guns & drugs to cybercrime.  Prior to joining the USAO\, Jonathan clerked for three federal judges and was an associate attorney at Sidley Austin LLP\, where he focused on patent litigation.  He earned his JD from The University of Texas and holds degrees in computer science from Georgia Tech and mechanical engineering from Auburn. \n \nNathan Stump\, Partner\, Schlichter Bogard LLP\nNathan Stump is a partner at Schlichter Bogard LLP\, a mid-sized plaintiffs’ firm in St. Louis. His practice focuses on complex class action lawsuits filed in federal courts across the country. Before joining the firm in 2021\, Nathan served for over 14 years as an Assistant U.S. Attorney\, first in the Middle District of Alabama and later in the Southern District of Illinois. During his tenure as a federal prosecutor\, Nathan led hundreds of civil and criminal prosecutions against individuals and corporations\, primarily in cases involving children\, the elderly\, and other vulnerable victims. He began his legal career as a commercial litigator at large law firms in Philadelphia and Washington\, D.C. Nathan is also a founding member and the current president of the Southern District of Illinois chapter of the Federal Bar Association. Over the years\, he has lectured audiences on a wide range of topics\, including trial advocacy\, digital evidence\, and the ethical use of social media. Gargotta\, United States Bankruptcy Court\, Western District of Texas\n \nJudge Gargotta was appointed to the bench on October 1\, 2007. He was then appointed Chief Bankruptcy Judge for the Western District of Texas on November 2\, 2021. Judge Gargotta has a B.A. and M.A. from Texas A&M University and his J.D. from St. Mary’s School of Law in San Antonio\, Texas. After law school he clerked for the Honorable Ronald B. King\, United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Western District of Texas. He then served as an Asst. U.S. Attorney for 17 years prior to taking the bench. Judge Gargotta is a member of the NCBJ\, Federal Bar Association\, and Larry E. Kelly Inn of Court. He serves as an Associate Editor for the American Bankruptcy Law Journal and is an adjunct professor at St. Mary’s Law School. Judge Gargotta has spoken at numerous bar conferences on a local and national level. Judge Gargotta and his wife Susan have been married for almost 39 years and have two sons\, a wonderful daughter-in-law\, and a beautiful grandbaby girl. \n  \n  \nGabrielle Resnick\, Law Clerk to Judge Gargotta\n \nGabrielle Resnick graduated with her Juris Doctor in May of 2023 from the Emory University School of Law. Ms. Hogan’s work includes advising boards of corporations\, educational institutions as well as nonprofits on governance issues. Ms. Hogan graduated cum laude from Princeton University in 1985 and received her J.D. from Rutgers University where she graduated with high honors in 1990. Ms. Hogan has been recognized by Benchmark Litigation as one of the “Top 250 Women in Litigation\,” by Crain’s inaugural list of “Leading Women Lawyers in New York City\,” The New York Journal as a “Top Woman in Law” in 2016 and was named by Chambers & Partners in 2015 as “Lawyer of the Year for Private Practice” for gender diversity in the profession.
