DESCRIPTION:**Program hosted in (ET) Time Zone** \nThis one hour presentation will provide practical guidance on filing and litigating requests under the federal Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)\, including discussion of the relevant FOIA exemptions\, as well as the varying standards and procedures that govern FOIA cases in federal district courts. \nSave the Date!\nPresented by FBA’s Federal Career Service Division  \n\n\nPresenters\n\n \nMark Zaid\, Managing Partner\, Mark S. Zaid\, P.C.; Co-Founder Whistleblower Aid; \nMark S. Zaid is a Washington\, D.C. based attorney specializing in crisis management and complex litigation primarily relating to national security\, international law\, and the Freedom of Information/Privacy Acts. His practice often represents federal employees\, intelligence and military officers\, and whistleblowers. \nMr. Zaid teaches D.C. Bar Continuing Legal Education classes on FOIA/Privacy Act requests\, defending security clearances\, and federal whistleblower cases. Since 2009\, he has been named a Washington\, D.C. Super Lawyer annually and is repeatedly designated a “Best Lawyer” by Washingtonian Magazine\, which also named him one of D.C.’s Most Influential People for national security. In 2024\, Forbes named him one of the top 200 lawyers in the United States. As the National Law Journal once wrote\, “if Agent Mulder ever needed a lawyer\, Zaid would be his man.” \nHe is the Executive Director and founder of the James Madison Project and co-founder of Whistleblower Aid. Mr. Zaid serves on the Board of Directors at the Center for Ethics and the Rule of Law (University of Pennsylvania Law School)\, the Advisory Board of the International Spy Museum\, and as a Fellow with the National Institute of Military Justice. He has previously served as an adjunct professor at Johns Hopkins University and Texas A&M’s George H.W. Bush School of Government & Public Service. \nMr. Zaid has provided testimony to a variety of governmental bodies\, including the Senate and House Judiciary Committees. The American Bar Association Journal noted\, “Zaid is an equal opportunity thorn out to pierce the sides of suit jackets bearing both elephants and donkeys on the lapels.” \nA graduate and Associate Editor of the Law Review of Albany Law School\, he completed his undergraduate education (cum laude) at the University of Rochester with honors in Political Science and high honors in History.
