DESCRIPTION:**Program hosted in (ET) Time Zone** \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis is part three of a four-part series detailing the ins and outs\, and the ups and downs of using one’s law credentials in international employment.  This webinar will address opportunities and challenges\, and address the “day in the life” of immigration attorneys currently engaged in this field of practice.  The experts in this panel are currently engaged in the specific field and will share the business model\, how to find or create opportunities\, and answer questions posed by participants to give practical information on entering and surviving in the volatile environment today in immigration law. \n\nRegister Now!\n\nPresented by the Federal Bar Association’s International Law Section \n\nPresenters\n \nCol (USAF\, Ret) Linda Strite Murnane (Moderator) \nUniversity of Cincinnati College of Law\, J.D. 1981 \nLinda recently completed two years as an Associate Justice serving on the High Court of the Republic of the Marshall Islands.  Her previous judicial experience included ten consecutive years as a military judge and chief circuit military judge for the United States Air Force.  She served in a variety of United Nations positions at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia\, including service in Trial Chamber 3 as the Senior Legal Officer\, three years as the Chief Court Management Services\, and short terms as the Acting Head of Chambers and Acting Deputy Registrar.  She also served three years as the Chief\, Court Management Services at the Special Tribunal for Lebanon. \nShe currently serves on the Board of Governors for the American Bar Association (ABA) and American Judges Association (AJA) and is the co-District Director for District 7 of the National Association of Women Judges (NAWJ).  She previously served as Chair of the ABA Judicial Division and National Conference of Specialized Court Judges\, as the Chair of the ABA Standing Committee on Armed Forces Law\, and as an ABA UN Representative and Special Observer.  She served on the ABA International Law Section’s Executive Council for six years.  She is an ABA Sustaining Life Fellow\, and a past recipient of the Margaret Brent Women Lawyers of Achievement and International Law Section’s Mayre Rasmussen Award. \nJustice Murnane is the editor of “Women’s Voices: A Global Perspective on the Right to Vote”\, and is a chapter contributor to “Her Honor” both published by ABA Publications. \nShe is a retired colonel in the United States Air Force and is married to Kevin M. Murnane\, USAF\, Ret.  They have two daughters\, Rachel Manuel and Christina Veillon\, who are both teachers\, and three grandchildren\, Abrial\, Cody and Aidan. \n \nJudith Wood \nJudith Wood has defended the rights of asylum seekers since graduating from Pepperdine University School of Law\, and has had her own law firm since 1984. She has won numerous appeals at the administrative and federal level\, and is admitted to practice before the United States Courts of Appeals for the Second\, Third\, Fourth\, Fifth\, Ninth and Tenth Circuits\, as well as the Supreme Court. She has chaired the section’s International Human Rights Law section for several years\, and is a frequent speaker for the FBA\, the American Immigration Lawyers Association\, Los Angeles County Bar Association\, the Asian-Pacific Law Center\, and several other groups. A film entitled “St. Judy” was made about her advocacy on behalf of women refugees in 2018. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \nFederica Dell’Orto\, Esq. \nFederica Dell’Orto has extensive experience in immigration\, international\, human rights law and in complex litigation matters. For years Ms. Dell’Orto has represented clients in Court during removal proceedings as well as in asylum\, bond\, cancellation of removal and adjustment hearings. She has also matured ample experience with the Board of Immigration Appeals and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Ms. Dell’Orto has an international legal education background. She was born in Italy where she obtained her JD from the University of Milan in 2013 in EU and International Law. In 2016\, she completed an LL.M in Los Angeles\, in Public International Law. In 2017\, Ms. Dell’Orto became licensed to practice law in California and she is also admitted to the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Challenging privilege logs\, selecting the key participants or witnesses for depositions\, Touhy requests\, and selecting experts. \nDiscovery in FCA litigation does not begin with unsealing or surviving a motion to dismiss. Planning for discovery begins with the defendant’s responses to the Government’s CIDs (both document production and any interviews conducted)\, continues through depositions\, and must include frontal challenges to privilege logs. Because open discovery after unsealing is often conducted years after the events (at times as much as a decade or more)\, there is a saying that if you don’t have a document\, you won’t have a fact. Prior to these roles\, Adams joined the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York and served as lead prosecutor on several prominent money laundering and racketeering cases. He also became co-chief of that Office’s Money Laundering and Transnational Criminal Enterprises Unit\, leading a team of prosecutors engaged at the nexus of sophisticated transnational crime and opaque financial networks\, and served as one of the District’s asset forfeiture coordinators\, advising Assistant U.S. Attorneys across the Office on civil and criminal forfeiture matters. Greenberg Immigration Justice Clinic at the Cardozo School of Law; an Immigration Staff Attorney at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit; an Attorney Advisor with the New York Immigration Court; and an Equal Justice Works Fellow at the Political Asylum/Immigration Representation (PAIR) Project. Andrea is a passionate trainer who has presented to advocates nationwide on habeas corpus litigation\, BIA and circuit court appeals\, legal writing\, and bond and relief from removal. Andrea was honored with the American Immigration Lawyers Association – New York Chapter’s “Pro Bono Champion” Award in 2019 and the New York City Bar Association’s Legal Services Award in 2021. Ms. Akers clerked for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and was a national moot court champion during law school. \n \nSaul Jay Singer\, Counsel\, District of Columbia Bar \nSaul Jay Singer\, Senior Legal Ethics Counsel for the District of Columbia Bar\, has served as litigation counsel with the United States Department of Justice\, with several top District of Columbia and Maryland firms\, and as a solo practitioner.  He litigated several high-profile civil rights matters\, including representing high school teacher David Sanders in a federal civil rights/wrongful death action against law enforcement officials arising out of the attack at Columbine High School\, and he specialized in professional discipline cases.  He also served as actuary and ratemaker for several ratemaking organizations\, insurance companies\, and as actuary for the National Flood Insurance Program. \nMr. Singer\, who also serves as counsel to the D.C. Rules of Professional Conduct Review Committee and the Legal Ethics Committee\, teaches Continuing Legal Education courses for the D.C. Bar\, is a sought-after ethics presenter at legal seminars and conferences\, and writes a Speaking of Ethics column for the Washington Lawyer.  He was an Adjunct Professor of Law at the American University Washington College of Law\, where he taught courses in Legal Ethics\, and he previously taught courses in Legal Analysis\, Research\, and Writing at the University of Baltimore School of Law.
