Freeman School of Business\, and Washington College. \n\n\n\n \nAmy Boyle\, Managing Partner\, MSB Employment Justice\nAmy Boyle is the Managing Partner at MSB Employment Justice in Minneapolis\, Minnesota. After working in law firms\, in 2021 Boyle and her partners founded MSB Employment Justice. Their motivation for starting a new firm was generated by a feeling there is a better way to serve clients compared to what the partners had experienced in the past working at other firms. This motivation translates to how Boyle and her partners run the law firm and manage their team. They take a non-traditional and “whole person” approach that benefits the firm\, its employees\, and their clients.\nShe handles all types of employment matters\, with a particular focus on representing women who have experienced sex discrimination\, sexual harassment and assault\, and retaliation at work and whistleblower clients who have reported illegal workplace practices or companies engaged in deceitful conduct. Amy also represents clients who have found themselves in an untenable work situation\, advising and negotiating severance agreements for executive-level employees often leaving long-term employment.\nBoyle is the Chair of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Section and a Past Chair of the Younger Lawyers Division. A frequent speaker on the topics of employment law\, discovery\, trial\, and diversity and inclusion\, Boyle has organized and presented at many FBA events. Aside from her work with the FBA\, Boyle is active with the Minnesota Women Lawyers\, serving as a Board Member and the Co-Chair of its Judicial Initiative\, and Minnesota NELA. \n\nKrystal Lyons\, Attorney\, Stream\, Kim\, Hicks\, Wrage & Alfaro\, PC\nWith over 20 years of experience\, Krystal Lyons has served as trusted counsel to a broad range of clients in various industries and across a wide spectrum of practice areas\, including general business\, commercial litigation\, eminent domain\, municipal law\, condominium and homeowners’ association law\, appellate practice\, and employment law matters. Krystal’s litigation practice includes shepherding cases through every stage of litigation—from investigation to trial and appeal. She guides clients through all forms of alternative dispute resolution but when those efforts are unsuccessful\, Krystal will not hesitate to try a case before a judge\, jury or arbitrator. Over the course of her career\, Krystal’s practice has evolved from providing legal advice and serving as trial counsel into supporting her clients in broader capacities such as personnel management\, change management\, and performance improvement. Krystal’s varied career also includes higher education where she served as the Director of Operations & Budget at the University of La Verne College of Law where she was responsible for managing the overall administration of the law school which included strategic planning\, administrative operations\, co-curricular activities\, finance and budget management\, procurement\, campus safety\, shared governance\, and risk management with respect to premises liability\, contractual liability\, and regulatory compliance. Krystal is licensed to practice law in California\, Michigan\, and Georgia. \n \n\n\n\n\nStuart Slavin\, MD\, MEd\, Vice President\, Well-Being\, Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education\nDr. Stuart Slavin is the ACGME’s vice president for well-being. A graduate of Saint Louis University School of Medicine\, Dr. Slavin completed his residency in pediatrics at the University of California\, Los Angeles (UCLA) and then served as a faculty member there for 17 years. While at UCLA\, Dr. Slavin held several leadership positions in education\, serving as pediatric residency program director\, pediatric clerkship director\, co-founder and co-chair of the UCLA Doctoring course\, and co-chair of the medical school Curriculum Management Committee. Dr. Slavin returned to Saint Louis University as Associate Dean for Curriculum in 2004. While there\, he led efforts to improve the mental health of medical students that produced dramatic decreases in rates of depression and anxiety in pre-clerkship students. He joined the ACGME in 2018 as a senior scholar for well-being and has helped to lead efforts to improve the mental health of residents\, fellows\, faculty members\, and staff across the US. GAO audits and reports on the performance of federal programs\, analyzes policy and outlines options for Congress\, and issues legal decisions and opinions in areas related to bid protests of federal contracts and the use of public money\, among other responsibilities. \nHer primary practice is within GAO’s Defense Capabilities & Management (DCM) section where she serves as engagement counsel supporting GAO audit teams evaluating DOD programs\, projects and activities. Her current portfolio includes nuclear capabilities; the NC3 enterprise; force structure requirements particularly with regard to peer competitors; the Defense industrial base; and DOD budget and appropriations issues\, among other topics. Prior to joining GAO’s DCM practice in 2015\, Ms. Lopez served as appropriations law counsel at GAO from 2008-2015. \nMs. Lopez received her Juris Doctor from Howard University School of Law in 2008. Prior to law school\, she served as committee staff for the Senate Select Committee on Ethics\, and in a variety of legislative-focused positions at an environmental NGO. She earned her B.A. in Political Science with a History minor from the University of New Hampshire in 1989. \nShe’s a member of the District of Columbia and Supreme Court Bars. \nMatt McGhie \nMatt McGhie is Senior Counsel at the United States Senate Office of the Legislative Counsel\, where he has worked since September 2001. He drafts legislation for U.S. senators in the areas of foreign assistance\, immigration\, and homeland security\, among others. He is a 2001 graduate of the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University and a 1992 graduate of the University of Southern California\, where he received a Masters’ in Public Administration. \nMr. McGhie has been a member of the FBA since 2001\, serving as President of the Capitol Hill Chapter in 2012 and Chair of the International Law Section in 2016. He also co-founded the International Conference on Legislation and Law Reform\, which first convened in 2013 and will be holding its eighth conference on October 24-25\, 2024 at the Washington DC Bar headquarters. \nTJ McGrath \nT.J. McGrath serves as the General Counsel for the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission advising the Executive Director on legal and business matters. Prior to MedPAC\, she was the General Counsel at the Congressional Budget Office\, and Associate General Counsel for the TRICARE Management Activity now the Defense Health Agency. She served 12 years on active duty with the Air Force Judge Advocate General Corps and 18 years as a reservist. \nT.J. co-founded Ardaithe Consulting LLC\, developing tailored soft skills training for leadership and staff. DESCRIPTION:Judge Advocates from the Army\, Air Force\, Navy\, Coast Guard\, & Marines discuss what it is like to be a lawyer in the military and how to join the JAG Corps on Active Duty or in the Reserve. \n[Register Online] \n\nSpeakers\nCPT Jordan Green\, Army Judge Advocate \nCaptain Jordan A. Green was born and raised in Virginia Beach\, Virginia. The son of two military retirees\, he attended Hampton University on a 4-year scholarship through the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC). Upon graduation\, Jordan commissioned into the Army Reserves as a Second Lieutenant in the Adjutant General’s Corps. He obtained his law degree from The George Washington University Law School in Washington\, D.C. At GW Law\, he served as the National Vice Chair of the National Black Law Students Association\, overseeing the programming and day-to-day governance of a 6000-member national non-profit organization. Jordan was accepted into the Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps (JAGC) and accessed onto Active Duty in January 2019. \nCaptain Green currently serves as the Accessions Officer with the Army Judge Advocate Recruiting Office in Fort Belvoir\, VA. In this role\, he is directly responsible for the hiring and onboarding of all new JAGC attorneys on Active Duty. He most recently served as a Defense Counsel at Fort Liberty\, NC\, focusing primarily on defending Soldiers in federal court. His other legal assignments include: Military Justice Advisor\, Special Assistant United States Attorney\, and Legal Assistance Attorney with XVIII Airborne Corps at Fort Liberty\, NC. \nCaptain Green’s military awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal (2nd award)\, the Army Achievement Medal (3rd award)\, the Armed Forces Service Medal\, National Defense Service Medal\, the Global War on Terrorism Medal\, and the Army Service Ribbon. He also completed Airborne School and is entitled to wear the Parachutist Badge and the Canadian Parachutist Badge. \nCaptain Green is a member of the Bar of the District of Columbia. He is an active member of the National Bar Association and the ROCKS\, Incorporated\, a non-profit mentoring organization for Army officers. He earned a Certificate in Diversity and Inclusion from Cornell University in 2022 and currently serves on a field board for the Army JAGC Diversity\, Equity\, and Inclusion Council. He has guest lectured at Hampton University\, Methodist University\, and Texas Southern University. In 2023\, he was recognized by the Virginia Beach City Public School System for his contributions to its annual high school African American Male Summit. \nHe is married to his college sweetheart DeKyan Green\, who works in marketing. \nMaj. Aneisha Bell\, Air Force Judge Advocate \nMajor Aneisha T. Bell received her commission into the Air Force Judge Advocate General’s Corps through the Direct Appointment Program and entered active duty in January 2018.  While in law school\, she participated in the University of South Carolina School of Law Juvenile Justice Clinic.  She also interned at the City of Columbia City Attorney’s Office\, Richland County Public Defender’s office\, and the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina interning for the Honorable Judge Margaret B. Seymour.  Since entering the JAG corps\, Major Bell has deployed in support of Operations Spartan Shield\, Inherent Resolve\, and Freedom’s Sentinel to Al Dhafra Air Base\, Abu Dhabi.  She is admitted to practice law in the State of Alabama. \nMajor Bell previously served as a Victims’ Counsel for District 2 of the Victims’ Counsel Division.  She was assigned to Tinker Air Force Base\, OK and provided victims’ legal counsel at McConnell Air Force Base\, KS.  In this role\, she was detailed to represent victims of crimes before military courts-martial as well as in administrative and civil legal matters. Major Bell serves as the Chief of Recruiting for the Air Force JAG Corps in the Professional Development Directorate\, Office of the Judge Advocate General\, at the Pentagon. She manages the judge advocate recruiting programs\, including all recruiting communications and materials\, policy guidance\, oversight for recruitment visits to law schools and ROTC detachments\, internships and externships\, and scheduling and participation in regional and national conferences. She also provides technical assistance for all prospective judge advocate applicants. \nLt. Leena Blocker\, Navy Judge Advocate \nLT Blocker grew up in Fort Worth\, Texas. She graduated from the University of Texas in May 2009 with a BBA in International Business. While an undergraduate\, LT Blocker studied the European Union and lived in Germany for four months. In August 2009\, LT Blocker moved to Houston to attend law school at South Texas College of Law\, where she graduated with her JD in May 2012. \nShe then went on to private practice in Houston for four years. During her civilian career\, LT Blocker practiced in the areas of personal injury\, medical malpractice\, and commercial civil defense. \nLT Blocker joined RLSO Hawaii in December 2016 and completed the FTJA program in March 2019. While completing her trial rotation\, LT Blocker also served as the Navy Special Assistant US Attorney as well as the acting Professional Development Officer for RLSO Hawaii. \nLT Blocker joined Cryptologic Warfare Group SIX as their SJA from April 2019 to March 2022. She is now in charge of the Accessions\, Retention\, and Awards programs at OJAG Total Force Management. \nLt. Nedley Peyton\, Coast Guard Judge Advocate \nLieutenant Peyton Nedley serves as the Accessions & Resource Program Manager for the Coast Guard Legal Program (CGJAG)\, overseeing the Coast Guard’s legal recruiting and judge advocate accessions. She also holds a collateral duty as Military Aide to the Judge Advocate General and Chief Counsel of the Coast Guard. \nShe previously served as a staff attorney in the Office of Claims and Litigation\, where she was responsible for representing the Coast Guard in federal civil litigation nationwide in coordination with the Department of\nJustice. \nLieutenant Nedley joined the Coast Guard as a Direct Commission Lawyer in 2021. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a B.A. in Political Science and History and received her J.D. and LL.M. in International and Comparative Law from Duke University School of Law. \nLieutenant Nedley’s individual military awards include the Coast Guard Achievement Medal and the Commandant’s Letter of Commendation Ribbon (2) with Operational Distinguishing Device. \nShe is a Tar Heel from Wilmington\, North Carolina\, and currently resides in Alexandria\, Virginia\, with her husband. \nMaj. Shannon Hillery\, Marine Corps Judge Advocate \nMajor Hillery graduated cum laude from the College of William and Mary with her Bachelor of Arts in English and Government in May 2012.  She started law school in August 2012 at American University Washington College of Law in Washington\, D.C.  During the summer of 2013 she attended Officer Candidate School in Quantico\, Virginia\, and commissioned as a Second Lieutenant via the Platoon Leaders Course law program in August 2013. \nMajor Hillery graduated law school cum laude in May 2015.  In the fall of 2015 she was admitted to the Virginia bar.  She delayed accession to active-duty orders to serve from September 2015 to September 2016 as a clerk for Chief Judge Lawrence B. DESCRIPTION:The FBA Alternative Dispute Resolution and LGBTQ+ Law Sections\, in collaboration with the FBA Diversity and Inclusion Committee\, and the District of Columbia Chapter\, present the first-ever\, “Pride in ADR” event on Monday\, June 17th from 5:00-9:00 p.m. ET\, generously hosted by the law firm Sidley Austin in Washington\, D.C. and available in hybrid format\, remotely\, anywhere in the world. \n \nPride in ADR is a celebration of the LGBTQIA+ communities’ availability\, visibility\, and selection as professionals in the field of alternative dispute resolution and a conversation about some of the challenges which persist as well as those which lay ahead. District Court for the District of Columbia\, the first Hispanic woman and first open LGBTQIA+ judge at the D.C. federal district court in history \nJudge Reyes was appointed as a United States District Judge in February of 2023\, assuming the seat previously held by Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly. \nJudge Reyes served as a law clerk to Judge Amalya L. Kearse on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit (2001).  After clerking\, Judge Reyes became a litigation attorney at Williams & Connolly LLP\, where she spent her legal career from 2001 to 2023.  While there\, she served as the co-chair of the firm’s International Disputes practice group and on its Executive Committee.  Her practice focused on international litigation\, representing foreign governments\, foreign government officials\, and multinational companies.  Judge Reyes also worked on patent\, legal malpractice\, and other complex civil litigation matters. \nJudge Reyes devoted substantial pro bono time to assisting refugees and organizations that assist refugees in obtaining asylum\, including the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and Human Rights First. In 2016\, she received the Legacy Award from Unlikely Heroes for her successful representation of young women escaping persecution by a regional terrorist organization.  The Legal Times has recognized her as a “Champion” for her pro bono efforts (2009). \nIn 2023\, the Hispanic National Bar Foundation presented Judge Reyes with its “Judicial Leadership Award\,” which recognizes excellence in the legal profession.  While in private practice\, Judge Reyes earned accolades from The Legal 500 as a “Leading Lawyer” (2023) and “Next Generation Lawyer” (2020-2022) in International Litigation and from Benchmark Litigation as a “Local Litigation Star” (2019-2023).  The National Law Journal recognized her multiple times\, including on its Outstanding Women Lawyers list recognizing “the 75 most accomplished female attorneys working in the legal profession today” (2015); as an “Immigration Trailblazer” (2018); a Washington D.C. “Rising Star” (2014); and as a Minority 40 Under 40 (2011).  In 2017\, the Women’s Bar Association of D.C. named her as its “Woman Lawyer of the Year.” \nJudge Reyes was born in Montevideo\, Uruguay\, and grew up in Louisville\, Kentucky.  She received her J.D.\, magna cum laude\, from Harvard Law School (2000)\, her M.I.P.P.\, with honors\, from the School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University (2014)\, and her B.A.\, summa cum laude\, from Transylvania University (1996).  Along with her admissions to bars of the United States\, Judge Reyes was listed on the Roll of Solicitors in England and Wales.  Judge Reyes co-taught Advocacy in International Arbitration as a Clinical Visiting Co-Lecturer at Yale Law School (2018\, 2019) and co-taught Trial Practice\, Experts at Georgetown University Law School (2017). \nJudge Reyes is often joined in Chambers by her golden retriever\, Scout\, who obtained his own Juris Dogtor\, summa cum laude. \nBryan J. He served as Managing Partner of the firm throughout 2020 and 2021. Javier has particular expertise in both U.S. federal and state courts. He has represented many high-profile corporations and individuals in contract and business disputes\, commercial transactions\, and intellectual property matters. He has handled trials and appeals on both the state and federal levels. This complex litigation\, in the aftermath of the devastating Champlain Towers collapse tragedy claiming 98 souls and 136 property units\, has been one of the most important and impactful cases of Javier’s career and garnered worldwide importance. Veronica Rossman\, Judge\, U.S. Court of Appeals – Tenth Circuit\nJudge Veronica S. Rossman was born in the former Soviet Union. In the mid-1970s\, she immigrated with her parents to the United States from Moscow as political and religious refugees. The family settled in the San Francisco Bay Area\, where Judge Rossman grew up. \nJudge Rossman received her BA in Comparative Literature (Spanish and Russian) from Columbia University. She received her JD from UC Law San Francisco (formerly UC Hastings)\, where she served as Editor-in-Chief of the Hastings Constitutional Law Quarterly. \nJudge Rossman was a law clerk on the Nevada Supreme Court to Justice William Maupin (retired). She also served as a staff attorney for the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. \nEarly in her career\, Judge Rossman worked for several years as a litigation associate with Morrison & Foerster LLP; she was based in the firm’s Washington D.C. and Denver offices. At the firm\, Judge Rossman specialized in appellate practice and antitrust work. DESCRIPTION:Judge Royce C. Lamberth will reflect on his distinguished career as a federal judge\, chief judge\, FISA court judge\, and now senior judge. Lamberth \nRoyce C. Lamberth was appointed United States District Judge for the District of Columbia on November 16\, 1987.  He served as Chief Judge from May 1\, 2008 to July 15\, 2013\, at which time he became a Senior Judge. \nJudge Lamberth\, a native of San Antonio\, Texas\, graduated from the University of Texas\, receiving a B.A. degree in 1966 and from the University of Texas School of Law\, receiving an LL.B degree in 1967.  He served as a Captain in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps of the United States Army from 1968 to 1974.  After service at Fort Bragg\, North Carolina\, and in Vietnam\, Judge Lamberth served in the Litigation Division of the Office of the Judge Advocate General of the Army at the Pentagon from 1971 to 1974. \nJudge Lamberth served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Columbia from 1974 to 1987.  He was Chief of the Civil Division of the United States Attorney’s Office\, 1978 – 1987. \nJudge Lamberth is married to the former Janis K. Jost of San Antonio.  He is a former Chairman of the Federal Litigation Section of the Federal Bar Association\, and a member of the American Bar Association and the Bar Association of the District of Columbia\, and the District of Columbia Bar. \nJudge Lamberth is also a former Chairman of the Professional Ethics Committee of the Federal Bar Association.  The Federal Bar Association’s Model Rules of Professional Conduct for Federal Lawyers\, finally approved in October 1990\, were drafted by Judge Lamberth’s Committee. \nJudge Lamberth was appointed by Chief Justice Rehnquist to be Presiding Judge of the United States Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court on May 19\, 1995.  That appointment ended May 19\, 2002. \nJudge Lamberth served as a member of the Judicial Conference of the United States from May 2008 to July 2013.  He also served as a member of the Judicial Conference’s Committee on Automation and Technology from 1990 to 1996\, and from 2003 to 2008\, served as Chairman of the Judicial Conference’s Committee on Inter-Circuit Assignments.  Chief Justice Roberts appointed him to again Chair the Inter-Circuit Assignment Committee\, effective October 1\, 2013. \nAbout the Moderator\nAshley Akers\, Younger Lawyers Division Chair \nAshley Akers is a Trial Attorney at the Department of Justice in the Civil Division\, Commercial Litigation section in Washington\, D.C. She handles an array of matters filed in the Court of International Trade\, Federal Circuit\, D.C. District Court\, and Court of Federal Claims. Akers has argued nearly 20 federal appellate cases and has tried 15 jury and bench trials. As part of her trade practice\, she runs the Department’s Trade Fraud Task Force. She started her legal career in intellectual property litigation in the San Francisco Bay Area at a large law firm. After a few years\, she shifted to federal employment at the United States Department of Labor and then the FBI. SSA Pauly has worked counterintelligence investigations in San Francisco\, Boston\, and as an FBIHQ Program Manager. While in Boston\, she also spent three years working public corruption investigations. SSA Pauly spent 10 years as a member of the Evidence Response Team (ERT). She is also a member of the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Program (BAP) where she consults with counterintelligence agents on investigations from the perspective of human behavior. SUMMARY:Webinar: Working with and Challenging Expert Witnesses
DESCRIPTION:Panelists will discuss the legal standards for admissible expert testimony\, practical tips for working with a scientific expert in science based cases\, and strategies for why\, when\, and how to challenge the opinions of an opposing expert. Mr. Jacobs will discuss the approaches an attorney may pursue in Patent litigation and other Science Based cases. In patent cases\, trials were often handled by litigation attorneys in the beginning and only after creation of the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit did cases begin to be handled by science-educated attorneys.  Mr. Jacobs saw cases where each side had well qualified experts and rarely was there a “Daubert” challenge. Rather experts were challenged on their scientific analyses. Mr. Michel’s experience is quite different\, and his cases involved frequent “Daubert’ challenge for a variety of strategic reasons\, particularly challenges to quasi-scientific\, social science\, and non-scientific experts.  How to use the economic analysis of the other side to help you select one or more experts\, and why you might hire more than one will be discussed. Also\, the difference between testifying experts and consulting experts will be explored\, along with the strategy of when and why to employ them. \nPresented by the Senior Lawyers Division and the Younger Lawyers Division. \n\nAbout the Presenters\nAlbert Jacobs\, Jr.\, Chair of Senior Lawyer’s Division of the FBA\, Albert Jacobs PLLC\nWith more than 40 years of experience in every phase of Patent Law\, Mr. Jacobs has spent the last 30 years litigating Biotech\, Pharmaceutical\, and Medical Device Patents\, for multinational companies both before the Federal District Courts\, the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit (CAFC) and the International Trade Commission (ITC). He was the first of a group of attorneys to participate in the ITC’s first 100 Day Proceeding dealing with the issue of whether or not there was a Domestic Industry in the subject matter of the Patent. He was successful in proving there was not. He successfully sued a number of large well known foreign companies in one of the largest ITC cases ever filed when he brought an action against 44 companies. He has appeared before the CAFC from its outset and is the only attorney ever to invalidate a Patent for his client on an appeal from an improvidently granted Preliminary Injunction. Mr. Jacobs has participated in numerous Mediations both in the Federal Courts and in the ITC. He was appointed by the Secretary of Commence to a 3-year term on the Patent Public Advisory Committee. He is a Certified Mediator under New York State Statutes and has participated in a wide range of Domestic Family Matters. He has served as a coach for the Association of the Bar of the City of New York in their Mediation Program. DESCRIPTION:Over the years\, there has been much debate about the creation of legislation that would set ethics rules for the U.S. Supreme Court\, as well as what such rules would cover and how they could be enforced. Three experts in this arena–Virginia Canter\, Chief Ethics Counsel for CREW (Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington)\, Hon. Andre M. Davis\, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit (Ret.)\, and Charles G. Geyh\, Indiana University Distinguished Professor\, and the John F. Kimberling Chair in Law at the Indiana University Maurer School of Law–will talk about the Constitutional and ethical matters surrounding this important topic. The distinguished panel will discuss: whether such legislation is necessary and\, if so\, what conduct should be addressed; what the implications of such legislation could be if it is implemented; and how enforcement of rules could be carried out. Davis\nJudge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit\, Retired \nDuring a thirty-year judicial career starting in 1987\, Davis served as an Associate Judge on the District Court of Maryland for Baltimore City; as an Associate Judge on the Circuit Court for Baltimore City; as federal district judge on the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland; and as a federal appellate judge on the Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. In September 2017\, Davis retired fully from service as a judge to become City Solicitor\, as Head of the Law Department\, of Baltimore. There\, he managed a department of approximately 110\, including 70 lawyers who represent the City in all civil legal matters.  In his role as counsel to the Baltimore City Police Department\, he was at the forefront of the City’s implementation of the federal court consent decree requiring broad policing reforms. He retired as City Solicitor in February 2020. \n  \n \nProfessor Charles G. Geyh\nIndiana University Distinguished Professor \nCharles G. Geyh is Indiana University Distinguished Professor\, and the John F. Kimberling Chair in Law at the Indiana University Maurer School of Law. His work on judicial conduct\, ethics\, independence\, administration\, practice\, and procedure has appeared in over one hundred books\, articles\, book chapters\, reports\, and other publications. \nGeyh has served as an expert witness in the Senate impeachment trial of Federal District Judge G. Thomas Porteous; Director of and consultant to the ABA Judicial Disqualification Project\, and as Reporter to four ABA Commissions (the Joint Commission to Evaluate the Model Code of Judicial Conduct\, the Commission on the 21st Century Judiciary\, the Commission on the Public Financing of Judicial Campaigns\, and the Commission on the Separation of Powers and Judicial Independence). He has likewise served as Director of the American Judicature Society’s Center for Judicial Independence; Consultant to the Parliamentary Development Project on Judicial Independence and Administration for the Supreme Rada of Ukraine; Assistant special counsel to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives on the impeachment and removal of Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice Rolf Larsen; Consultant to the National Commission on Judicial Discipline & Removal; and legislative liaison to the Federal Courts Study Committee. \nHe received his B.A. in political science from the University of Wisconsin in 1980 and graduated from the University of Wisconsin law school in 1983\, after which he clerked for the Honorable Thomas A. Clark on the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit\, worked as an associate at the Washington D.C. law firm of Covington & Burling\, and served as counsel to the United States House of Representatives Committee on the Judiciary\, before beginning his teaching career in 1991. He has represented clients in a variety of complex litigation matters including assisting employees with disabilities in obtaining accessible technology and accommodations in the workplace\, representing individuals who have been wrongfully convicted\, commercial litigation disputes\, and fighting workplace discrimination based on sexual orientation. Prior to Donahue Fitzgerald\, Mario was an attorney at a plaintiff class action firm. He began his legal career in New York\, first serving as a law clerk in the Commercial Division of the New York Supreme Court\, New York County\, and then as an associate at a mid-size law firm. He also provides research on the laws of Russia and other former Soviet republics.  Before joining the Law Library in 1996\, Dr. Roudik worked as a research scholar at the University of Chicago Law School\, served as a legal advisor to the Russian Parliament\, and taught law at the Moscow Institute of Technology.  He holds an MA from the U.S. Naval War College\, a JSD from the Institute of State and Law of the Russian Academy of Science\, and a JD from the State University of Moscow.  Dr. Roudik is a member of the DC Bar. He has been a guest lecturer at Howard and Tufts Universities.  He has been featured at various professional conferences and his articles on legal developments in the countries of his jurisdiction have been published in legal periodicals in the U.S. and abroad. \nBarbara Bavis is the Bibliographic and Research Instruction Librarian for the Law Library of Congress. In this position\, she organizes the Law Library’s legal and legislative research class offerings\, provides presentations to a wide range of patrons¾congressional staff members\, federal government employees\, and members of the public. She also provides legal research services to patrons\, both at the reference desk in the Law Library Reading Room and via the Law Library’s Ask a Librarian service. Before joining the Law Library of Congress in 2012\, Ms. Bavis was a practicing attorney at LeClairRyan\, a former National Law Journal Top 250 firm\, where she represented clients in a range of immigration\, labor and employment\, and civil cases. Ms. Bavis then went on to provide reference services for the Department of Justice Libraries system before serving as the Faculty Services Librarian at Lincoln Memorial University’s Duncan School of Law. There\, she was responsible for assisting faculty members with the publication process\, administrating the Student Research Assistant Program\, and teaching in the Lawyering Skills Program\, where she provided classes on legal research and writing. Sontchi \nChristopher S. He is a Lecturer in Law at The University of Chicago Law School and has taught restructuring to international judges through the auspices of the World Bank and INSOL International. Roger received his LL.M in Taxation from New York University School of Law and his J.D. from Boston College Law School. \nDan Davidson \nDan is an experienced courtroom advocate\, having appeared in court at all stages of criminal litigation\, from arraignments to evidentiary hearings to sentencings. After receiving his J.D. cum laude from New York University School of Law in 2016\, Dan was hired as a prosecutor by visionary District Attorney Kenneth P. Thompson. \nHis practice at Kostelanetz & Fink\, LLP focuses on white-collar criminal defense and civil and criminal tax controversies. While Dan does not consider himself a tax lawyer\, he is a perfect example of how non-tax lawyers must still have expertise in\, as well as an understanding of\, tax law\, practice\, and procedure. \nNick Zemil \nNick Zemil is a Director in PwC’s Washington National Tax Services group\, specializing in international tax. Nick advises clients and local PwC teams on a variety of international tax planning and controversy issues arising from pre- and post-tax reform provisions\, with a focus on outbound transactions. Prior to joining PwC\, Nick was an associate with a large\, international law firm. Nick is also an experienced adjunct professor\, with a teaching focus in tax and accounting. In addition to teaching\, Nick is a frequent speaker on international tax at various internal and external forums and has authored several publications on domestic and international tax issues. \nTeisha Ruggiero \nTeisha Ruggiero is an attorney with the IRS Office of Associate Chief Counsel (International)\, Branch 3\, where she focuses on developing and drafting foreign tax credit guidance.
