DESCRIPTION:**Webinar hosted in (ET) Time Zone** \nJoin the Immigration Law Section’s Newer Lawyers Division for their webinar series. This webinar series enables attendees to receive education and mentoring from seasoned immigration attorneys in specific areas of immigration law. Panelists Lauren Anselowitz and Guadalupe Perez will discuss immigration detention and bond eligibility \nRegistration has closed. \nPresented by the Immigration Law Section \nPresenters\n \nLauren Anselowitz – Partner\, Harlan York & Associates\, Newark\, NJ \nLauren is a partner at Harlan York & Associates in Newark\, New Jersey. Named to Best Lawyers in America\, her most noted accomplishments include successfully arguing multiple cases under the Convention Against Torture before the U.S. Immigration Court. The Executive Office for Immigration Review reported that less than 1% of these cases are granted. Ms. Anselowitz also won oral arguments before the U.S. Third Circuit Court of Appeals\, one step below the U.S. Supreme Court\, to vacate a deportation order for a client of the firm. \nIn recent years\, she has personally represented Harlan York & Associates clients at Immigration Court and Service Offices in New Jersey\, New York\, Connecticut\, Pennsylvania\, Massachusetts\, Virginia\, North Carolina\, Georgia\, and Florida. \nMs. Anselowitz has successfully resolved complex family and employment-based green card applications\, issues of citizenship\, and a number of different nonimmigrant visa petitions. Her experience includes H\, L\, E\, O\, and R visas. Additionally\, Ms. Anselowitz has worked extensively on applications under the Violence Against Women Act. \nMs. Anselowitz is an adjunct professor of Immigration Law in the Justice Studies Department at Montclair State University. She has lectured at Rutgers University School of Law and before the New Jersey State Bar and the Federal Bar Association. She was honored as a Super Lawyers Rising Star for four years. \nA graduate of North Carolina State University and Seton Hall Law School\, Ms. Anselowitz earned a Master of Arts Degree from the John C. Whitehead School of Diplomacy and International Relations. She also attended the American University in Cairo\, Egypt\, and served in the field of international criminal law at the Special Court for Sierra Leone. She previously lived in Pretoria\, South Africa\, and has spent time in Botswana\, Zimbabwe\, Zambia\, Senegal\, the Gambia\, Ethiopia\, and Morocco. \nMs. Anselowitz is admitted to the Supreme Court of New Jersey\, the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey\, the U.S. Third Circuit Court of Appeals\, and the U.S. Second Circuit Court of Appeals. \n\nGuadalupe Perez – Public Defender\, Immigration Division at the Law Office of the Cook County Public Defenders\, Chicago\, IL \nGuadalupe is an attorney with the Immigration Division at the Law Office of the Cook County Public Defenders in Chicago\, Illinois. She represents individuals in detained removal proceedings before the Chicago Immigration Court and provides Padilla advisals to public defenders. Previously she was a supervising attorney with the National Immigrant Justice Center’s Detention Project where she represented individuals in removal proceedings and managed the Legal Orientation Program (“LOP”) which was located at McHenry County Jail in Illinois and the Kenosha County Detention Center in Wisconsin. Lupe also served as the co-chair of the AILA Chicago Chapter’s Legal Services for Detained Individuals Committee. Lupe graduated from DePaul University College of Law and is licensed in Illinois. Prior to law school\, Lupe was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Jordan.
