SINGLETON\nJudge\, Indiana Northern Bankruptcy Court \nJudge Singleton earned his bachelor’s degree with honors from Wake Forest University and his law degree\, with Pro Bono Distinction\, from the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University. Before attending law school\, Judge Singleton taught social studies for Teach for America at National Academy Foundation High School in Baltimore. After graduating from law school in 2009\, he worked at Indiana Legal Services where he practiced family and landlord/tenant law. He then joined the Family Justice Center of St. Joseph County where he handled cases involving civil protective orders. His professional experience also includes private practice in employment law at Faegre Baker Daniels (now Faegre Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP)\, service as Assistant City Attorney for the City of South Bend\, and Magistrate Judge for the St. Joseph Superior Court where he presided over criminal and civil cases. \n  \n  \n  \n \nBingxin (Emily) Lu\, Law Clerk to Judge Paul E. Singleton \nEmily Lu is a law clerk for the Honorable Paul E. Singleton. She was a judicial extern for Judge Singleton during her last semester of law school. While in law school\, her strong interest in bankruptcy law also led to an opportunity for an externship at the Department of Justice\, U.S. Trustee Program. Ms. Lu earned her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from University of Nevada\, Las Vegas. She then attended Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law and graduated in 2022. Before joining the Indiana Northern District Bankruptcy Court\, she was a Deputy Attorney General in the Litigation Division of Indiana Attorney General’s Office. In that role\, she handled matters related to administrative law\, judicial review\, and qui tam actions. \n  \n  \n  \n  \n \nBrian M. Ortiz\, Law Clerk to Judge Singleton \nBrian M. Ortiz serves as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Paul E. Singleton. He previously worked as a law clerk to the Honorable Chief Judge Heather Z. Cooper at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Vermont. Prior to clerking\, he attended The University of Iowa College of Law\, where he developed an interest in the intersection of law and business. \nDuring law school\, Brian clerked for two Minneapolis law firms\, working on cases ranging from discrimination to employment law issues. He earned an MBA from American International College and obtained his BA from Providence College. Less known are the Federal Rules of Procedure and Evidence. This webinar will focus on rules and evidence that apply in adversary proceedings and contested matters in bankruptcy court. \nPresented by the Bankruptcy Law Section \n  \nRegister Today\n  \nPresenters\nChief Judge Craig A. Gargotta\, United States Bankruptcy Court\, Western District of Texas\n \nJudge Gargotta was appointed to the bench on October 1\, 2007. He was then appointed Chief Bankruptcy Judge for the Western District of Texas on November 2\, 2021. Judge Gargotta has a B.A. and M.A. from Texas A&M University and his J.D. from St. Mary’s School of Law in San Antonio\, Texas. After law school he clerked for the Honorable Ronald B. King\, United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Western District of Texas. He then served as an Asst. U.S. Attorney for 17 years prior to taking the bench. Judge Gargotta is a member of the NCBJ\, Federal Bar Association\, and Larry E. Kelly Inn of Court. He serves as an Associate Editor for the American Bankruptcy Law Journal and is an adjunct professor at St. Mary’s Law School. Judge Gargotta has spoken at numerous bar conferences on a local and national level. Judge Gargotta and his wife Susan have been married for almost 39 years and have two sons\, a wonderful daughter-in-law\, and a beautiful grandbaby girl. \n  \n  \nGabrielle Resnick\, Law Clerk to Judge Gargotta\n \nGabrielle Resnick graduated with her Juris Doctor in May of 2023 from the Emory University School of Law. She currently serves as a Judicial Law Clerk for Chief Judge Craig A. Gargotta\, United States Bankruptcy Court\, Western District of Texas. She previously served as a Judicial Extern for the Honorable J.P. Boulee at the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia.
