DESCRIPTION:**Program hosted in (ET) Time Zone** \nThis webinar will explore recent data breach and cybersecurity MDL cases in the District of Minnesota and across the country: Article III standing\, issues in choice of law and state statutory claims\, case management for very large cases\, and the use of bellwether processes for class action data breach cases.  Panelists will include three major practitioners in these cases – Karen Hanson Riebel\, current co-lead counsel for MDL 3108: Change Healthcare\, Inc. Customer Data Security Beach Litigation and MDL 3083: In Re: MOVEit Customer Data Security Breach Litigation\, along with Kate Baxter-Kauf\, who has argued portions of the motions to dismiss for each of the two cases and Emma Ritter Gordon\, who has worked on these and is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US)\, certified by IAPP. \nRegister Now!\nPresented by FBA Annual Meeting & Convention 2025 sponsor Lockridge Grindal Nauen PLLP \n\nPresenters\nKate Baxter-Kauf\, Partner\, Lockridge Grindal Nauen PLLP\nMs. Baxter-Kauf’s practice is concentrated in the firm’s data breach\, antitrust law\, business litigation\, and securities litigation practice groups. She represents individuals\, consumers\, financial institutions and small businesses in litigation to protect their rights and\, most often\, the rights of the class members they seek to represent. Ms. Baxter-Kauf is a 2011 magna cum laude and Order of the Coif graduate of the University of Minnesota Law School. In 2018\, she was one of only five attorneys nationally named a Rising Star by Law360 in the area of Cybersecurity & Privacy\, was recognized as an Up & Coming Attorney by Minnesota Lawyer magazine in 2016\, and for each of 2015-2021\, has been named one of Minnesota’s Rising Stars by Minnesota Law & Politics magazine. Prior to joining the firm\, Ms. Baxter-Kauf clerked for the Honorable Alan C. Page\, the Honorable Helen M. Meyer\, and the Honorable Christopher J. Dietzen\, Associate Justices of the Minnesota Supreme Court. \nBefore law school\, Ms. Baxter-Kauf was an award-winning coach of high school and college policy debate teams across the country and facilitated debate teams at Twin Cities urban middle and high schools. She coached the 2003 National Forensic League policy debate national champions. \nKaren Hanson Riebel\, Partner\, Lockridge Grindal Nauen PLLP\nKaren Hanson Riebel concentrates her practice in the areas of data breach\, antitrust\, and securities litigation. She has litigated a number of complex class action matters and represented numerous pension funds and other institutional investors in cases involving corporate fraud. Since 2013\, she has been on the forefront of international data breach litigation\, representing consumers and financial institutions against retailers\, insurance companies\, and software providers. \nMs. Riebel began her career by spending seven months in Anchorage\, Alaska as a member of the trial team that secured a jury verdict for punitive damages in the amount of $5 billion for a mandatory punitive damages class in In re The Exxon Valdez\, Case No. A89-0095-CV (D. Alaska). For their efforts\, Ms. Riebel and the other members of the trial team were awarded the Trial Lawyers’ For Public Justice Trial Lawyers of the Year award in 1994. \nMost recently\, Ms. Riebel has served in leadership roles in data breach litigation involving Premera Blue Cross\, Capital One\, Yahoo!\, and Progress (the MoveIt Data Breach). Ms. Riebel lives in Minneapolis with her husband and two children. \nEmma Ritter Gordon\, Associate\, Lockridge Grindal Nauen PLLP\nEmma Ritter Gordon is an Associate at Lockridge Grindal Nauen PLLP practicing in the firm’s data-breach and healthcare groups. She represents consumers and healthcare providers in individual and class litigation. Since joining LGN\, she has represented pro bono clients with criminal appeals before the Minnesota Court of Appeals. \nAfter graduating summa cum laude from Duke Law School\, Emma clerked at the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals for the Honorable Judge David R. Stras. At Duke\, she served as the Senior Articles Editor for the Duke Law Journal and as Co-President of the Duke Law and Technology Society. She has interned at the Department of Justice in the Computer Crime and Intellectual Property Section and at the North Carolina Solicitor General’s Office. \nBefore going to law school\, Emma worked for a major healthcare technology company. She held a variety of roles in operational strategy\, data analysis\, and product management.
