SUMMARY:2024 Thurgood Marshall Memorial Moot Court Competition
DESCRIPTION:  \n  \nThe Younger Lawyers Division of the Federal Bar Association is pleased to announce the 2024 Thurgood Marshall Memorial Moot Court Competition. This year’s competition will be held in-person on March 20-21\, 2024.  \n\nThe 2024 Thurgood Marshall Memorial Moot Court Competition is scheduled for March 20-21\, 2024\, in Washington D.C.  Several aspects of the competition make it one of the premier moot court competitions in the country. All of the individuals who serve as judges in the competition are actual judges\, practitioners\, or scholars. This reinforces the “real world” experience for competitors. Competitors have an opportunity at the awards reception that immediately follows the final round of the competition to network with federal judges and practitioners\, who travel from around the country to attend the Federal Bar Association’s Leadership Summit. Finally\, as an added bonus\, the FBA is now offering Law Student Membership to new applicants for free! This Membership includes up to three years of associate membership while the student is enrolled in law school and the first year of their professional membership after graduation. SUMMARY:Webinar: Immigration Law Section - Statelessness and Asylum
DESCRIPTION:Join the Immigration Law Section’s Newer Lawyers Division for their webinar series. This webinar series enables attendees to receive education and mentoring from seasoned immigration attorneys in specific areas of immigration law. Panelists Samantha Sitterley and Steven Schulman will discuss some of the legal challenges attorneys face when representing stateless asylum seekers\, with a particular focus on the unique situation of stateless Palestinian asylum seekers in the United States. \n\n\n\nPresented by the Immigration Law Section \nRegistration is closed\n\nPresenters\nSamantha Sitterley\, Staff Attorney\, United Stateless\n \nSamantha Sitterley joined the United Stateless team as the first ever Staff Attorney in October 2022. At United Stateless\, Samantha provides direct legal representation for members of our Stateless Community\, and represents our organization’s interests before members of Congress and federal agencies to improve the circumstances of stateless people. Samantha is a 2014 graduate of the Tulane Law School in New Orleans\, Louisiana. She currently lives in Boulder\, Colorado. \n\n\n  \n  \n \n\n\nSteven Schulman\, Pro Bono Partner\, Akin\n \nSteven Schulman is Akin’s pro bono partner\, leading the firm’s worldwide pro bono practice since 2006. He has a focus on human rights and refugee matters and has represented asylum seekers in the United States for more than 25 years.
