SUMMARY:Webinar: Career Paths for LGBTQ+ Law Students and Young Attorneys
DESCRIPTION:This webinar will feature a diverse group of legal practitioners\, including members of the Board of the LGBTQ+ Law Section\, who will discuss their backgrounds\, career paths\, and their current roles. The panel will provide perspectives on what it means to be a LGBTQ+ legal practitioner and will also discuss their involvement with and in the LGBTQ+ community. Panelists will provide perspectives from an array of practices areas\, including public interest\, civil litigation\, tax law\, and more. \n  \nPresented by the LGBTQ+ Law Section \n\nAbout the Presenters\nAnthony May\, Associate\, Brown\, Goldstein & Levy LLP (Moderator)\nAnthony May is an associate at Brown\, Goldstein & Levy\, LLP. He has represented clients in a variety of complex litigation matters including assisting employees with disabilities in obtaining accessible technology and accommodations in the workplace\, representing individuals who have been wrongfully convicted\, commercial litigation disputes\, and fighting workplace discrimination based on sexual orientation. Prior to joining the firm\, Anthony was the Francis D. Murnaghan\, Jr. Appellate Advocacy Fellow at The Public Justice Center\, where he represented indigent clients\, authored amicus briefs\, and argued in the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and Maryland appellate courts on various anti-poverty and civil rights cases. He clerked on the Appellate Court of Maryland (formerly known as the Maryland Court of Special Appeals) for the Honorable Deborah Sweet Eyler (Ret.). While attending law school\, Anthony worked as a law clerk at Brown Goldstein & Levy\, was the Executive Symposium Editor of the Journal of Race\, Religion\, Gender & Class\, a semi-finalist in the ABA Labor & Employment Law Trial Competition\, and a Legal Writing Fellow. Anthony is a graduate of the University of Akron and the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law. \nMario Choi\, Partner\, Donahue Fitzgerald LLP \nMario Choi is a Partner at Donahue Fitzgerald LLP\, where he advises and represents clients in complex commercial litigation and other matters. Prior to Donahue Fitzgerald\, Mario was an attorney at a plaintiff class action firm. He began his legal career in New York\, first serving as a law clerk in the Commercial Division of the New York Supreme Court\, New York County\, and then as an associate at a mid-size law firm. Mario is active in the community\, serving as a Judge Pro Tem for the San Francisco Superior Court\, a lecturer at Berkeley Law\, and as a director on the boards of several non-profit and legal organizations. \n  \nKevin Griffiths\, Managing Partner\, Scanlan Griffiths + Aldridge \nKevin is one of the founders of Scanlan Griffiths + Aldridge\, a boutique civil-litigation firm Boise\, Idaho. He currently serves as the managing partner. He is a civil litigator with a practice focused on medical malpractice and professional liability defense\, insurance coverage and bad faith litigation\, products liability\, and complex commercial litigation. He is an active member of the FBA and currently serves as Treasurer of the LBGTQ+ Section. \nPrior to entering private practice\, he served as a law clerk to the Hon. Jim Jones of the Idaho Supreme Court. Kevin has also served as a visiting lecturer on a variety of topics for the University of Idaho College of Law\, including insurance law and civil discovery practice. Kevin earned his J.D. from the University of Idaho College of Law and has a B.A. in History from the College of Idaho. \nJacob Puhl\, Tax Policy Manager\, AMET & The Americas\, Meta \nJacob is a Manager of Tax Policy at Meta\, formerly Facebook. He leads Tax Policy for the Middle East\, Africa\, and the US States. Based in Washington\, DC\, he serves as a liaison between policymakers\, business lines\, and tax functions to remove friction and anticipate challenges. His portfolio spans the globe\, with a focus on promoting workable and consistent tax policy. \nBefore Meta\, Jacob was a Manager at Deloitte’s Washington National Tax practice focusing primarily on US Federal tax policy. He contributed to legislative updates for clients as well as advised foreign entities and embassies on US policy matters. Prior to Deloitte\, Jacob served as a legal intern at the US Treasury Department\, in the Office of the International Tax Counsel.
