To name a few: Boy Scouts of America\, Purdue Pharma and the NRA. As with every headline\, there’s so much more to the story and the case than just the headlines. During the webinar\, our panel will discuss the headlines and delve into why every practitioner should be aware of the implications. \nPresented by:\nBankruptcy Law Section\n \n\nAbout the Presenters\nJon Jay Lieberman\, Partner\, Sottile & Barile LLC (Moderator) \nJon Jay Lieberman is Partner and Chair of the Financial Institutions Litigation and Regulatory Compliance Group at Sottile & Barile LLC.  Currently\, he serves on the Editorial Board of The Federal Lawyer and on the Executive Committee of FBA’s Bankruptcy Law Section.  He is an Associate Editor of The American Bankruptcy Institute Journal\, and Co-Author of ABI’s treatise “Thorny Issues in Consumer Bankruptcy Cases.”  He is Special Projects Leader of ABI’s Commercial and Regulatory Law Committee\, and Co-Chair of Outreach for ABI’s Task Force on Servicemembers and Veterans Affairs.  He is former Co-Chair of ABI’s Consumer Bankruptcy and Legislation Committees\, and has served on the Selection Committee for ABI’s 40 Under 40.  Jon is currently an Officer on the Southern District of Ohio Bench-Bar Board\, and formerly served as Consumer Chair for the Southern District of Ohio Bankruptcy Court’s Attorney Advisory Committee. He has also served on the Board of Trustees of the Cincinnati Bar Association\, as Chair of the CBA’s Real Property Law Committee\, and as Master and Executive Board member of the Potter Stewart American Inn of Court.  Jon is a Distinguished Military Graduate of Air Force ROTC\, and a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Cincinnati where he was a Louise Taft Semple Classics Scholar.  His wife Heather\, and King Charles Cavalier Spaniels Puck and Angus run him ragged. \n \nBen A. Barnes\, Partner\, Kirkland & Ellis LLP \nBen is a trial lawyer and litigation partner in the Dallas office\, focusing on high-profile and complex disputes in Texas and across the country. A courtroom veteran\, Ben has ushered public companies\, investment firms\, entrepreneurs\, and corporate fiduciaries through trials\, injunction hearings\, and arbitrations. His substantive experience includes energy\, corporate governance\, antitrust\, real estate\, and trade secrets disputes. Ben has an active restructuring litigation practice and has represented debtors\, creditors\, and committees in a number of contested matters and adversary proceedings. He also has considerable experience representing post-confirmation trustees on a contingency or alternative fee basis. \nBen’s superior trial work has earned him recognition from both legal media and his peers. Best Lawyers identified Ben as “One to Watch” in 2021\, Texas Super Lawyer has named him a “Rising Star” since 2018\, and D Magazine lists him among the best lawyers in Dallas under 40. Ben serves on the board of the American Bar Association Business Torts Litigation Committee and is a barrister in the John C. Ford American Inn of Court. He is on the Board of Advisors of the Washington University in St. Louis School of Law\, his alma matter. \nBefore entering private practice\, Ben clerked for the Honorable Raymond W. Gruender of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. He has served as an officer in the United States Marine Corps Reserve since 2010 and also serves the local community through the Exchange Club of East Dallas\, which supports the underrepresented children of East Dallas. \nHon. Elizabeth L. Gunn\, U.S. Bankruptcy Judge \nHon. Elizabeth L. Gunn was appointed to serve as bankruptcy judge for the District of Columbia on September 4\, 2020. A COVID-era selection and appointment\, she was sworn in by Zoom from her living room and did not conduct her first in person proceeding until March 2022. Before her appointment\, Judge Gunn served as an Assistant Attorney General for the Commonwealth of Virginia as the bankruptcy specialist for the Division of Child Support Enforcement. Prior to joining the Office of the Attorney General\, Judge Gunn was in private practice in Richmond\, Virginia. In 2017\, Judge Gunn was recognized by the American Bankruptcy Institute as a member of its inaugural class of 40 Under 40. Judge Gunn serves on the advisory board of the American Bankruptcy Institute Law Journal\, the board of the Federal Bar Association Bankruptcy Section\, is a former board member of the International Women’s Insolvency and Restructuring Confederation\, a former committee chair of the Consumer and Litigation Committees of the American Bankruptcy Institute\, and is an Associate Editor of the American Bankruptcy Institute Law Journal. She is a member of the Walter Chandler Bankruptcy Inn of Court and is Board Certified in Consumer Law by the American Board of Certification. Judge Gunn received her BA\, cum laude\, from Willamette University in Salem\, Oregon and her law degree\, cum laude\, from Boston College Law School. \nProfessor Sally Henry\, John E. Krahmer Banking and Commercial Endowed Professor of Law\, Texas Tech University School  \nSally McDonald Henry is the John E. Krahmer Endowed Professor of Banking and Commercial Law at the Texas Tech School of Law.  She is a 2022 recipient of the Texas Tech University Chancellor’s Council Distinguished Teaching Award\, the highest award given by Texas Tech University for teaching. Moreover\, she has been designated “professor of the year” multiple times by the Texas Tech Hispanic Law Students Association and the Texas Tech Black Law Students Association. \nBefore joining academia\, she was a partner at Skadden\, Arps\, Slate\, Meagher & Flom\, LLP\, where she represented a diverse group of clients\, including debtors-in-possession\, secured and unsecured creditors\, financially troubled companies\, and Chapter 11 trustees\, as well as entities that acquire financially distressed companies.  Her pro bono work has included asylum cases\, public housing cases\, wage theft cases and debtor-creditor work.  She has won a New York City-wide award from the Legal Aid Society for her pro bono work. \nMs. Henry received her B.A. from Duke University and her J.D. from the New York University School of Law.  She is the author or co-author of various articles on acquisitions of the assets of secured transactions\, troubled companies\, municipal bankruptcies\, debtor-creditor concerns of officers and directors\, cross-border restructurings\, and other bankruptcy-related issues\, and she is the editor of each annual edition of the Portable Bankruptcy Code and Rules (Business Law Section\, ABA) and co-author of Ordin on Contesting Confirmation (Wolters Kluwer\, 1998)\, updated semi-annually. \n\nRegistration\nRegistration Fees \n\nFBA Member: $0\nNonmember: $75\n\nLive Captioning: Closed captioning is available for all virtual webcasts. \nCancellation Policy: No refunds will be made for cancellations received after the close of business on April 27\, 2022.
