SUMMARY:Webinar: Just When I Thought I Was Out They Pull Me Back In! Will the Military Continue to Retain Courts-Martial Jurisdiction Over Retirees?
DESCRIPTION:For nearly 75 years\, military courts have squarely rejected challenges to the Uniform Code of Military Justice’s continued jurisdiction over certain retirees.  Two years ago\, University of Texas School of Law Professor Stephen Vladeck successfully convinced a judge of the D.C. District Court to find that courts-martial jurisdiction over retirees is unconstitutional.  Although the Supreme Court declined to hear Larrabee v. United States\, this issue is ripe for further scrutiny by lower courts.  This webinar will feature a discussion by Prof. Vladeck as to why military courts’ jurisdiction over retirees should end. \nPresented by:\nVeterans and Military Law Section\n \n\nAbout the Speaker\nProfessor Steve Vladeck\, Charles Alan Wright Chair in Federal Courts at the University of Texas School of Law \nStephen I. Vladeck  holds the Charles Alan Wright Chair in Federal Courts at the University of Texas School of Law and is a nationally recognized expert on the federal courts\, constitutional law\, national security law\, and military justice. Professor Vladeck has argued over a dozen cases before the U.S. Supreme Court\, the Texas Supreme Court\, and various lower federal civilian and military courts; has testified before numerous congressional committees and Executive Branch agencies and commissions; has served as an expert witness both in U.S. state and federal courts and in foreign tribunals; and has received numerous awards for his influential and widely cited legal scholarship\, his prolific popular writing\, his teaching\, and his service to the legal profession. \n\nRegistration\nRegistration for this event is now closed. \nRegistration Fees \n\nFBA Member: $0\nNonmember: $75\n\nLive Captioning: Closed captioning is available for all virtual webcasts. \nCancellation Policy: No refunds will be made for cancellations received after the close of business on March 16\, 2022.
