SUMMARY:Law Student Webinar Series: Career Paths for LGBTQ+ Law Students
DESCRIPTION:This webinar will feature members of the Board of the LGBTQ+ Law Section\, who will provide perspectives on how they obtained their current roles\, their career paths since graduating\, and what it means to be a LGBTQ+ legal practitioner.  The panel will also feature a discussion of what it means to practice LGBTQ+ law through pro bono legal work and involvement in the LGBTQ+ community more broadly. \nPresented by the LGBTQ+ Law Section \n\nAbout the Presenters\nChirag G. Badlani\, Partner\, Hughes Socol Piers Resnick & Dym\, Ltd; Section Immediate Past Chair\nChirag is a Partner of Hughes Socol Piers Resnick & Dym\, Ltd in Chicago\, Illinois. He represents clients in a wide variety of civil matters\, with a focus in the areas of civil rights\, constitutional law\, labor and employment\, and commercial litigation. He also represents clients in asylum and refugee matters. He joined the firm in 2012. Mr. Badlani graduated magna cum laude from New York University School of Law (J.D. 2008)\, where he served as a Production Editor for the Journal of International Law and Politics and as a Competitions Research and Writing Editor for the Moot Court Board. During law school\, Mr. Badlani worked at NYU’s Immigrant Rights Clinic. He received his B.A. from Yale College (B.A. 2003). Prior to joining the firm\, Mr. Badlani was a law clerk to the Honorable Ann Claire Williams\, United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit\, and to the Honorable Allyne Ross\, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York. He also worked as a Planning Associate at the Vera Institute of Justice\, in the Center on Immigration and Justice. \nMario Choi\, Associate\, Kaplan Fox & Kilsheimer LLP; Section Membership Chair\nMario is an associate at Kaplan Fox & Kilsheimer LLP in Oakland\, California. He practices in the areas of securities\, antitrust\, and consumer protection litigation. Prior to joining the firm\, Mr. Choi worked at the New York office of Pryor Cashman LLP where he handled a number of complex commercial cases ranging from intellectual property and contract disputes to real estate and environmental issues. Mr. Choi began his legal career as a law clerk to the Honorable Richard B. Lowe\, III\, Justice of the New York Supreme Court\, New York County\, Commercial Division. \nChristine E. Dieter\, Associate\, Hinckley Allen & Snyder LLP; Section Treasurer\nChristine is an Associate in the firm’s Environmental and Energy Practice Groups and Litigation practice. She has experience litigating in state and federal courts and before administrative agencies. Christine has worked on permitting matters for offshore wind farms and worked on litigation relating to the cleanup of contaminated land. Christine represents regional utilities in proceedings before state regulatory agencies and related appeals of those decisions\, including before the Rhode Island Supreme Court and Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court. She assists with permitting and other regulatory matters for owners and developers of energy generation projects and provides regulatory advice regarding project development. Christine also works on employment law matters and has achieved early dismissals of matters before the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination. In addition to litigating employment claims\, Christine advises employers on employee policies and handbooks\, compliance with the many federal and state laws affecting employers\, and on personnel decisions. Christine has experience with all stages of complex commercial litigation\, including pre-litigation dispute resolution\, motion practice\, summary judgment\, mediation\, trial\, and appellate practice. Christine is a member of the firm’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee. \nJohn N. Sellner\, E-Discovery Counsel\, Winthrop & Weinstine P.A.; Section Vice-Chair\nJohn is E-Discovery Counsel at Winthrop & Weinstine in Minneapolis\, Minnesota. He assists clients with implementing data retention policies that strike a balance between the risk inherent in preserving historical documents and electronic data\, regulatory compliance\, the cost of data storage\, and any other considerations that are particular to them. \nModerated By:\nBrandon King\, Associate\, Baker & McKenzie LLP; Section Chair\nBrandon King is an associate in Baker McKenzie’s Tax Practice Group in Washington\, DC.
