The Transportation & Transportation Security Law Section is concerned with the operation and improvement of the nation's transportation system, and comprises six committees addressing various transportation modes and issues. Included in the section's scope of interest are legislative, judicial and administrative law developments that affect air, rail, motor and water transportation both within the United States and on movements between the United States and other countries. The section addresses issues related to safety and security in transportation, ranging from the movement of hazardous materials to the threat posed by international terrorism. Other issues of interest include the role of public transit systems in American cities, the development of multi-modal forms of transportation, and the developing role of e-commerce in transportation. Many of these issues are addressed in the section's newsletter, TransLaw.

A Message from the Section Chair

Welcome to the Transportation and Transportation Security Law Section of the Federal Bar Association. The section serves the membership by distributing information about current legal developments in our area, and by providing networking opportunities for attorneys involved in transportation law and transportation security law. The section publishes an excellent newsletter, Translaw, and each year hosts multiple programs where experts share their knowledge about the most current topics in transportation law and transportation security law.

Last year, with Frank Duggan as chair, the section’s Web page was re-designed. We hope to use the Web page as a means of communicating better and more frequently with the section's members. We invite your comments and your suggestions, particularly for programs outside the D.C. area.

For those who are not section members, we hope we can convince you that section membership is a cost-effective and enjoyable way to keep up with developments in transportation and transportation security law. For those of you who are members, thanks for continuing your membership in the section. In either case, we hope to hear from you, and we hope you tell your friends and colleagues to join us in these exciting times.
