A Message from the Chapter President

The Oregon Chapter of the Federal Bar Association has more than 400 members from private practice, government agencies, non-profit groups, and the courts. We are one of the largest Chapters of the FBA by percentage of admittees to practice.  We are committed to serving the needs of the federal practitioner in Oregon through our monthly luncheons, CLEs, and annual Judges Appreciation Dinner.  If you have not already done so, I invite you to join the Federal Bar Association and the Oregon Chapter. Judge's Visit and Film Screening
Please join the FBA and the U.S. District Court, District of Oregon in
welcoming the Honorable Thelton Henderson, U. S. District Court Senior Judge, Northern District of California, for a free event at noon on August 6, 2007 in the Jury Assembly Room in the Mark O. Hatfield U.S. Courthouse, 1000 S.W. Third Avenue, Portland. Judge Henderson will speak and answer questions following the playing of the documentary film, Soul of Justice: Thelton Henderson's American Journey, about his life. Light refreshments will be provided and you are welcome to bring a lunch.

Judge Henderson was the first black Justice Department lawyer in the South in the early 1960's; and he has had a distinguished career as a lawyer, an academic, and a judge. In the late 1960's after directing a legal services office in East Palo Alto, California, Judge Henderson moved to Stanford Law School, where he created Stanford's minority admissions program. Judge Henderson spent several years in private practice as a civil rights lawyer before he was appointed to the bench by President Carter in 1979. In the inspiring film Soul of Justice, Abby Ginzberg, a lawyer and
award-winning producer of documentary films, has captured the highlights of Judge Henderson's life, from his humble beginnings in Watts to his still-active career on the bench.

Anyone interested in meeting and talking with a front-line civil rights attorney should not miss this event. We look forward to seeing you there. NO RSVP'S ARE REQUIRED.
