The Office of the U.S. Trustees, U.S. Department of Justice, is seeking an experienced attorney for Region 21 of the federal judicial district of Florida. The attorney will assist in supervising the administration of cases and trustees in cases filed under Chapters 7, 11, 12 and 13 of the Bankruptcy Code. The incumbent will be required to draft motions, pleadings, and briefs; and will be primarily responsible for the preparation, presentation and litigation of cases arising under the Bankruptcy Act in the U.S. bankruptcy and district courts. In representing the U.S. Trustee, the incumbent will be responsible for all aspects of litigation, including factual investigation, legal research, preparation of pleadings and other documents; and trial of cases in the bankruptcy courts, the U.S. district courts, and the U.S. courts of appeals. Also must perform substantial non-litigation duties related to the supervision of trustees and the administration of cases. Applicants must possess a J.D. degree and be an active member of the bar (any jurisdiction), and have at least one year of experience in the practice of law in one or more of the following areas: litigation, bankruptcy, and appellate practice. Outstanding academic credentials are essential. The Attorney Grievance Commission of Maryland is accepting applications from members of the Maryland Bar for the position of assistant bar counsel. Duties consist of some screening of disciplinary complaints, litigation before administrative bodies, circuit courts, arguments before the Court of Appeals of Maryland, and other duties as directed by bar counsel. The applicant must be able to manage a substantial case load and be an experienced litigator. Applicants must have been admitted to the Maryland bar for at least three years and have engaged in actual trial work for three years. Any applicant, if selected, must submit to a background check. There is a 120-day probationary period. Starting salary is $48,907 per year. Benefits include medical insurance and a pension plan. To obtain an application form call Debra L. U.S. Courts for the Ninth Circuit are recruiting to fill a vacancy on the Bankruptcy Court for the Central District of California. Chambers are maintained in Riverside but may be required to travel to hear cases in other divisional offices in the district. This is an open, competitive process. Qualifications include admission to practice, good standing bar membership, and at least five years of legal practice. Appointment is for 14 years, subject to possible reappointment.
