Welcome to the LGBT Law Section of the FBA! I am thrilled to serve as Chair of the Section, building upon the great work of my predecessors, who helped to create and grow this important Section of the FBA. We were formed in March 2016 with the purpose of creating an open, inclusive, and engaging space for all federal practitioners--LGBT and allies alike. The intersection of LGBT-related issues and concerns with other areas of the law will enable us to partner with many other FBA Sections and external organizations, and we look forward to a collaborative, successful partnership.

Our section hosted a highly successful webinar this past June that featured Mary Bonauto and Shannon Minter, two distinguished names in the LGBT arena who discussed the Trump Administration’s transgender military ban. More than 50 people attended the webinar, and we hope to hold similar events going forward!

We are also ramping up our newsletter, OUTside Influence, this bar year. We look forward to receiving submissions from our members on topics that are timely and interesting!

This year, we are continuing to work on building our membership and leadership, as well as to engage our members and the broader community in important issues affecting LGBT individuals. We additionally hope to network with all FBA members, and members of the LGBTQ+ legal community outside the FBA, as a way to be supportive of one another's work, and engage in conversation that can improve the practice of law for us all.

If you would like to get involved with the Section, now is a great time to do so--we welcome submissions for articles and blog posts and additional hands to help out with other projects. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me or any of the board members if you would like to get involved in any way.

I look forward to a productive and interesting year, and welcome your comments and suggestions.

Best regards, Brandon King
