Labor and Employment Law Section Receives Awards at FBA Annual Meeting and Convention

In September, the Federal Bar Association held its 2016 Annual Meeting and Convention in Cleveland, Ohio. The Labor and Employment Law Section was well-represented throughout the meeting and convention and also hosted its monthly Section meeting in conjunction with the convention.

The Federal Bar Association encourages sections to provide programming, publications, continuing education, and networking opportunities through activities throughout the year. The Labor and Employment Law Section works hard to carry out the mission of the FBA to strengthen the federal judicial system by serving the needs of the federal practitioner, the judiciary, and the public they serve. One way in which the Section does this is by publishing a quarterly newsletter, The Labouring Oar, which not only keeps the section abreast of events and happenings, but provides substantive articles educating section members on cutting-edge employment law topics. Like last year, the section was again awarded the “Outstanding Newsletter Award,” a testament to the hard work of the many section members who serve as authors, contributors, organizers, and editors. Special thanks goes to Kathryn Knight and Brian Rochel for their hard work and dedication in coordinating and editing the section newsletters during the past year.

Finally, the section is very proud to announce that it was this year’s recipient of the Outstanding Section award. This award was given in recognition of section members’ efforts in putting together The Labouring Oar, monthly Circuit Updates, and collaborating with chapters throughout the country to deliver a new traveling CLE program entitled “Employment Law in a Nutshell.” This 3-hour CLE, which was designed to educate generalists and younger lawyers interested in specializing in employment law on the issues most frequently encountered by employment practitioners, has been presented in three cities in 2016 so far, is scheduled to be presented twice more this year, with two presentations (so far) planned for 2017.

Outgoing Chair Donna Currault and Incoming Chair Corie Tarara accepted these awards on behalf of the section.
