Labor and Employment Law Section Awards Outstanding Contributors

During the Labor & Employment Law Section meeting held during the FBA Annual Meeting and Convention in Cleveland, the Labor and Employment Law Section recognized several outstanding section members who have contributed to the work of the Section. The L&E Section takes pride in the quality of its publications provided to section members throughout the year. Circuit Updates provide cutting-edge information about decisions of the U.S. Courts of Appeals that impact the practice of labor and employment law. Additionally, the newsletter, The Labouring Oar, provides section members with in-depth analysis of timely topics important to the practice. Producing of these publications could not be possible without topical contributions from our authors.

In recognition of his contributions to the Circuit Updates as well as for the numerous articles that he has written for The Labouring Oar, Steve Griffith received the “Author of the Year” award.

In addition to our publications, the L&E Section strives to provide informative CLE programs for our section members. In addition to video webinars, this year, the Section implemented a traveling CLE programs, entitled “Employment Law in a Nutshell.” This 3-hour CLE is designed to educate generalists and younger lawyers interested in specializing in employment law on the issues most frequently encountered by employment practitioners. The CLE, which has been given in New Orleans, Minneapolis, and Oklahoma City so far in 2016, and is scheduled for San Diego in October and Phoenix in November, addresses EEO and FLSA matters as well as state-specific employment laws and regulations.

In recognition of their tremendous efforts in putting together this CLE and presenting it in multiple cities, the L&E Board selected Brett Strand and Betsy Chestney as recipients of the 2016 “Outstanding Speaker” award.

This year’s Chair Award, selected by the outgoing Section Chair to recognize the work and contributions of a Section member who goes above and beyond all expectations, was awarded incoming Chair Corie Tarara (pictured below). Ms. Currault commended Ms. Tarara for her tireless efforts on behalf of the Section, and particularly her hard work as Co-Chair of the Programming and Continuing Legal Education Committee, which has made substantial progress towards planning our Biennial Meeting, scheduled for this coming March 10-11 in San Antonio, Texas.

Finally, Ms. Tarara presented special thanks to Ms. Currault for her many years of service to the Section. For more than six years, Ms. Currault has been an active Section member, writing for our publications, serving on every committee, holding every position on the Section's Board, and performing well every task undertaken in furtherance of the Section's work. In appreciation, the Section presented Ms. Currault with an FBA chair, inscribed “with thanks for your dedication and services.”
