International Law Section Call for Nominiations

Nominations for FBA International Law Section 2017-2018 Officers

The Election Committee of the Federal Bar Association’s International Law Section is seeking nominations for section officers during the 2017-18 program year, which begins on October 1st. According to the section bylaws, the positions of Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer are elected annually in July of each year. A description of the duties of each officer position can be found in Article IV of the ILS Bylaws and the nomination and election process is set forth in Article VII.

If you would like to nominate yourself or another section member to serve as an officer, please e-mail Matt McGhie, Chair of the Election Committee, at matt_mcghie@slc.senate.gov by May 15. Please include the nominee’s name, FBA chapter affiliation, current employment, a summary of his or her previous FBA leadership experience, and a brief candidate statement (250 words or less).

The Election Committee will determine which candidates will be placed on the ballot. Any section member who is not placed on the ballot by the Election Committee may petition to be placed on the ballot by forwarding endorsements from at least 10 section members by June 30. The election will be conducted online during early July and the winners will be announced in late July.

In addition to officer positions, the Executive Board includes committee chairs and liaisons, who will be appointed by the incoming Section Chair. All members are encouraged to get involved with one or more of the section’s committees to get the most out of their FBA experience. Remember, this is your section. The success of the International Law Section depends on you.
