Message from the Chair of the International Law Section
Matt McGhie

After a prolonged hiatus, the International Law Section is once again publishing its quarterly newsletter, Global Perspectives. This was made possible through the efforts of our recently appointed newsletter editor, Heather Carney Costanzo, and others who contributed to this issue.

As Chair of the International Law Section (ILS), I am grateful for the support I have received from the newly appointed Executive Board. It is our desire to enhance your FBA experience by providing CLE programs, networking opportunities, and newsletter articles that provide thoughtful analysis of the interaction between international law and current world events.

The value of ILS membership can be compared to the value of a fitness center membership. Neither one is a good value unless you become an active participant. In order to better understand your background, interests, and expectations, please click on the following link to complete a brief ILS member survey: ILS Member Survey

I am looking forward to the upcoming program year. On Nov. 16, I briefly addressed the 2015 New York City Asylum Law Conference, which was cosponsored by ILS. Our International Human Rights and International Resources and Environmental Law Committees are also planning CLE events, which will take place in early 2016. We will post details about these events on the section website and inform section members of them via email.

There are many opportunities to assist the section leadership – by serving on one of the standing committee or on the bylaws revision committee, by writing an article or member profile for the section newsletter, or by helping with a specific section event. Let us know what contributions you’re willing to make. While these contributions will not have the impact on your triathlon time of a good workout at the fitness center, they will make your ILS membership more meaningful and will help enhance the value of ILS membership to all section members.
