Immigration Leadership Monthly Luncheon Series with David Shahoulian

On September 21, 2016, the DC Chapter and Immigration Law Section co-sponsored its Immigration Leadership Monthly Luncheon Series at Carmine's. David Shahoulian, Deputy General Counsel, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, spoke on Immigration Law and Policy.

2016 Immigration Law Conference

On May 12-13, the FBA hosted its 19th Annual Immigration Law Conference in New Orleans. The FBA Immigration Law Section provided a venue for in-depth discussion on of-the-moment topics critical to immigration law practice. Attendees had access to more than 35 CLE sessions over two days that covered three topical tracks including Litigation, Family/Humanitarian, and Business. Attendees also enjoyed several social and networking opportunities such as a tour of the Port of New Orleans, a welcoming reception at Crescent City Brewhouse, and an awards reception at the John Minor Wisdom U.S. Court of Appeals Building.

2015 Immigration Law Conference


The Federal Bar Association's 2015 Immigration Law Conference was held at the Sheraton Memphis Downtown Hotel in Memphis, Tennessee on May 15-16, 2015.

Immigration Judges Roundtable at Chicago-Kent Law School


Hon. Jennie I. Giambastiani, Hon. Robert D. Vinikoor, Hon. Sheila McNulty, and program moderator, Eileen Momblanco, Immigration Committee member.


The Immigration Law Committee of the Chicago Chapter of the Federal Bar Association, in coordination with the national FBA Immigration Law Section, presented an Immigration Judges Roundtable hosted by the Chicago-Kent Student Chapter of the Federal Bar Association at IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law on Tuesday, November 4, 2014.


Patrick Etchingham, law student and Program Director for the Chicago-Kent Student Chapter of the FBA, welcomes attendees to the roundtable discussion.


The immigration judges participating included Hon. Jennie I. Giambastiani, Hon. Robert D. Vinikoor, and Hon. Sheila McNulty, and the discussion was moderated by Immigration Committee member Eileen Momblanco. Over 50 people attended the event, including government, private, and non-profit attorneys, law students, and Chicago-Kent faculty.

The lively discussion topics ranged from best-practices, historical discussions of immigration law, this past summer’s influx of undocumented, unaccompanied children, and the future of immigration law. After the roundtable, students, attorneys, and judges mingled in a spirited environment. The Chicago-Kent Student Chapter of the Federal Bar Association looks forward to partnering for four similar events next semester.

2013 Citizenship In A Global Era
The Immigration Law Section of the FBA held a seminar in October 2013 in Rome, Italy. The conference explored citizenship and nationality questions in various contexts.
Deferred Action For Childhood Arrivals (DACA) Nuts & Bolts Seminar

On October 31, 2012 the Immigration Law Section co-sponsored a CLE conference in Washington, D.C. that was held by the D.C. Chapter on Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals . One of the panels was moderated by former ILS Chair, Barry Frager. The conference received great reviews from the participants. The ILS wants to extend its gratitude the ILS Board member Prakash Khatri for his efforts in getting the event off the ground.

Immigration Career Day
The George Washington University Law School

On March 29, 2011, the Immigration Law Section in partnership with the George Washington University Law School held an Immigration Career Day. There have never been more career opportunities for attorneys in the growing field of Immigration Law than at present.

This event was held to alert law students and recent graduates to available opportunities. Representatives from U.S. Government agencies, representative Law Firms that practice immigration law, and selected NGO’s described their organizations and the type of work performed, and provided information on application requirements. The event was a huge success with over 40 students attending. The Section would like the thank the representatives who participated and George Washington University Law School for hosting and providing refreshments.
